Radar a Detector which one?

Love my Valentine 1 and want a second one. They have some kind of production issue for over 6 months now. Have to go to another brand. $300 or so ok. Don’t need Bluetooth or ability to talk to other detectors. Just basic like the Valentine. Reviews are all over the place. Who has one and uses it. Valentine will stay in the Coronet. Looking for a car to car easy switch when using the modern Charger or Challenger.

I actually was hired by Mike Valentine in 1983. Cincinnati Microwave and the good ol'escort.
I drove with a V1 for 10 years, but the passport red light and photo database sold me. I've used the old passport 9500 for years now and still love it.

My son has a new Samsung cell phone. On his GPS it automatically reported everything while we were driving. It's loaded by others but it told us where debris in the road was, accidents, road side fire and police monitoring traffic. It was very accurate...

We use the ESCORT iXc. Works great and easy to update.

I bought mine used for $100 six years ago. Works great.
I think new you have to spend $300 or more to get a good product.

Last time I ran a detector (also a V1), all the collision avoidance systems were coming
out on new cars and all of those generated false alarms - so much so that I eventually
gave up on detectors.
Drove me nuts, all the falses….

They now have new firmware upgrades to reduce these issues. Doesn't completely filter, but does reduce the false alarms.

Man, I gave up on detectors when the cops started using lasers! I used to be a tanker driver in the early
seventies, and we had radios, detectors, and they worked pretty good but when the lasers came out
that was it. I go 5-7 over all the time and haven't gotten a speeder in over 30 years. Sattelites next?

Good question. Legal here though not much else is. I have a stealth mount for the Valentine in the Coronet. Can’t be seen by the Law. I’ll have to work on the dash mount for this one.

Inter web says all states legal with restrictions. Just a quick look. Not on Commercial, not on windshield (California). So much crap on windshields out here it is unenforceable.

I have an Escort Max. Got the one with Wifi but didn't need that option. It's saved me more than what I've paid for it in the 6 months of ownership. It picks up much farther away in my pickup truck, my guess is being up higher helps. The cops are really sneaky about flipping the radar on and off and I actually got pulled over in Oklahoma last month going 19 MPH over the speed limit. The officer laughed that how he got me even with a radar detector, then gave me a warning and let me go because he liked my '88 fox body. This was the second time getting pulled over in this car and being let go because the officer liked it.

Used to be a cop for many years and I loved the radar detectors. Especially at night on the Interstate. I would sometimes sit near entrance ramps, leaving the radar off, until I saw a vehicle obviously going over the speed limit by a large number. Instant on and then immediate brake lights. Didn't have to chase them too far. Often, the detectors were taken off and laying on the floor. In parting, I would say, you can put the detector back up, its not against the law.

One state - they are illegal in Virginia. Big signs at every major highway into the state. I drive a good bit for my job. As mentioned above, apps for smartphones and tablets like Waze are starting to make radar detectors obsolete.
