Rasing the rear of car

Now I have my car done the springs have settled and I need to raise it 1-2 "
What it the best way? Not the cheapest!:icon_wink:

2 inches is a lot. I added a Summit leaf each side and got 1 inch lift.

add a leaf or two....new springs...air shocks.....I have air shocks on my 67 R/T and the ride is decent..others say bad...I'm switching to a caltrac 1 inch over system because I'm building a hemi and have a 354 dana to install replacing the 8 3/4...otherwise the air shocks were ok

On the Road Runner build, I took them to a local spring shop and had them re arched. Only cost $80. But that was a numbers matching car, with the correct Mopar numbers stamped on the springs.

When I wanted to raise the back of my car about an inch I bought these Mr Gasket shackles. I measured for the holes I needed to use and then cut them off and rounded the edges. Then painted them black to look stock as I hate to see 4 or 5 inches of shackle hanging down in the back of the car. So you just cut them off and round the corners a bit and they look stock. And they can raise it a good inch or two depending on what holes you use. I use the 1/2" bolts and the brackets are thick and strong. Its very easy to do. Ron

Two comments:
1) I have heard (but honestly have not had this substantiated) that raising the car with shackles stresses the leaf springs and will help to de-arch them. Maybe this was an old wives tale??? Still shackles seems like an easy way to gain an inch and it seems relatively safe to me.

2) Using air shocks stresses the shock bracket in the car and puts load on that it was not designed to take. There was a thread awhile back that showed the carnage that can result. That bracket is made to dampen the bounce of the car, not hold the weight of the car. I would not recommend the air shock route for a B-body after seeing that.

So my $0.02: First choice: Springs, Second choice: Shackles, Third choice: Leave it like it is or maybe put taller rims/tires on it (which may then cause you to have to change the rear and speedo gear too...)

Eaton springs, made in USA, eom supplier, work off original blue prints. Not made in Mexico like the mopar performance ones which seem to flatten quickly. They sell stock plus +/- 1",2",3"..

try going to your local auto parts store and check on helper shocks like Monroe sense trac. load adjusting shocks I put them on the rear of my 65 satellite and it sits with a slight rake @ $ 50.00 ea. it's like a coil over shock you don't have to worry about an air line breaking. the ride isn't bad either.

I agree to get 2" I would go with new springs tailored to what you need....just my 2cents

I agree if you need to raise it 2 inches new springs is best. When I put my 3400 lb SS springs on my car it sat level and I wanted a tiny rake so I used the Mr Gasket shackles I posted in a link earlier and raised my car about 3/4 of an inch. Here is a pic of them after I installed them and I cut the extra off and painted them. They do work good to get a good inch and up to about 2 inches but if you can do new springs I agree to raise it that much springs is the best option but not the only option. Ron

super stock springs are about 1 to 2 inches higher than stock need pinion snuber

blocks , helper spring inserts , air shocks , helper springs ,helper shocks, adding or removing leafs from super stock spring leaf pack, fake coil over helper shocks
, heating springs with torch , drop down brackets , anything cheap to lower or raise vehicle

You dont need a pinion snubber with SS springs. I dont use one since it hooks just as good without using the pinion snubber. So I left the one off I had on my car when the original springs were on the car. All I use is just the SS springs and the MP longer shocks.
Not all SS springs raise the car alot. Mine sat level when I put them on my 63 and when we put them on my sons Dart it only sat a tad higher. We did not have to lower it any. Ron

As most have said "new springs". They're so cheap that it really doesn't make sense to mess around with anything else. X3 on the Air Shocks being a bad idea.

They are different part numbers but some guys I heard do order two of the same and put them on. I can tell you every car I have put them on sat unlevel and I had to adjust the torsion bars to level the car out. Maybe thats why some have put the same spring on both sides ? I have the 3400 lb SS springs on my 63 and they are listed as right and left and I believe the right usually has one more leaf in it ? But I also had to adjust my torsion bars after I put them on as it was not level but I figured thats normal since one had more leafs in it. Ron
