I recently rebuilt my transmission and when I started it up the rear tires spin in park. I double checked and it is in park on the trans ( do not have shift linkage hooked up yet (that's another mess). Any ideas on what would be causing this? Misadjusted band (too tight), valve body?

If it is truly in park, then the driveshaft can't turn. The parking pawl is a physical lock. I'd say it's either not in park, or something is broken in the park mechanism.
It has to be something with the parking pawl now that I have looked at it more. If I have the engine off and put it in park I can still turn the driveshaft with my hands. It is harder than when in gear or neutral but still able to spin. I think I am going to pop the valve body out to see what I can see. Might have to take the tail shaft back off unless you have any other ideas.

On a 727 you can access the pawl without removing the tail shaft, just remove the valve body. perhaps the 904 is the same.
It's kind of a 50/50 shot. The rod may have come un-clipped from the valve body - or it might not be engaged correctly in the parking pawl mechanism in the tail housing or the pawl itself is broken. If the rod has been disconnected - it's possible to reinstall and clip without pulling the valve body but it would be easier to do so by pulling it.
