reason #197,806 not to buy a chevy

I'm sure this has never happened with a Viper. No way. Just can't see it happening
:eusa_whistle:

"General Motors says in a statement that if the recording is valid it does not condone the behavior described, and that it is "actively working closely with the dealer to resolve this situation to the customer's satisfaction."

I nominate that that as biggest coward/pu$$y statement of the decade.

I was kidding. The actions of a few individuals does not reflect on the manufacturer as a whole. And of course ford guys are doing it as well as chrysler. Although, they just dont let any clown get in a viper. I work for chrysler and have seem some silly ****, but this is bad. they got busted hard. I have seen guys here almost get fired for spinning tires a little bit. They had to do some fast talking to get out of it. Something like this recording thing? They would throw you out so fast your toolbox would be in the middle of the road.
I don't know how old these guys are, but they are probably younger(I hope). I get srt vehicles now and then, and really have no desire to hammer on them. Ok, maybe a little desire, but I am smart enough to know if something goes wrong its my ***. And I can't afford to lose it! Besides, that is someone's 50k dollar car you are responsible for. I couldnt imagine having to explain to the customer that i just messed their car up. The thought of trying to charge them for my screw up wouldnt even cross my mind. Damn those guys have some stones.

Would be hard to resist the temption. I know when I still in a cool car for the first time I'm wondering just how far I can light them meats up.

I was a kid of 20 when I was workin for the local Ford dealer in 85 I think it was....whatever year the rustang first came with "headers" and real duals. The first GT we got in was a 5 speed car. The mechanic I was apprenticing under grabbed the keys from a salesman and we went for a ride. He turned out of the parking lot, speed shifting it and when he hit third "BAM" it broke the mainshaft in the transmission and completely destroyed it. Course we fixed it under warranty....but the dealer principal was NOT happy.

I got a mechanic fired from a dealer in the early 70's for just such behavior. My 70 440-6 RR had got A-holed while I was stopped in traffic by two girls in a "Dat-soon" who were window shopping. They were lucky they weren't hurt, as it really effed up that RR. A friend of mine lived down in the area where the dealer was located, and we were in his truck heading south on the freeway when MY CAR went by the other way, except it was doing about 90!!!! Since we were headed in the direction of the dealer, we just went down there, and I stormed the manager's office. If he's still kicking today, I'll guarantee you he remembers that day!!!

So here comes my car, looking like a hot sweaty race horse, and the manager fired him on the spot.

This is the car, I don't have any decent photos anymore, thanks to time deterioration, and a little problem with a house fire

A friend of mine from high school got an 85 mustang a few years after graduation, in the early 90's. That thing screamed. It ran really good. I don't think it had anything done either. For some reason that car just ran. He wound up getting way too many tickets and it had to go.

Ah yes Chevrolet, Can Hear Every Valve Rattle On Long Extended Trips.

Benji

LOL, it has nothing to do with the car MFG and I can gauranty it happens at Dodge dealerships just as it does at Ford and any other where anyone in their 20's and 30's are hired
Save the Chevy bashing, Benji.. Chevy valvetrains are why they make more power and are stable at 7000 rpms from the factory. I own both and the Chevy has been the most dependable car I have ever owned in 30 years of personal car ownership. The Chrysler's and Plymouth always had issue with those damn balast resistors going bad and the car not starting when you had to get to work. My current Plymouth runs a Chevy ignition for just that reason

Years ago my brother in law bought a 66 tempest vert, had a small v8 in it and it was the same way, I couldn't believe how easy it would burn the tires, It was an automatic and pulling away from a spot light that thing would chirp the tires kicking in 2nd gear.. I have heard many story's about a car coming from the factory and was completely different then the same car bought by someone else. The drive train in that Pontiac had to have been meant for the GTO is what we always thought. Im sure others have seen or heard the same but you telling of that Mustang made me remember that old tempest, just a simple every day driver that would scream.

Good one!! "Can Hear Every Valve Rattle On Long Extended Trips".
lol

Hell I've owned more Chevys than most Chevy guys. Around 40 or so. And I'm a Mopar guy. Dad had an early 67 Camaro RS. Put over 300K on the car til my brother finally drove it into the ground. Have work on and built more Vettes and Camaros than most Chevy guys. Lot of resto-mod stuff. Strokers, suspenstions, all that crap. Gives me a strong base to stand on when in a debate with Mr. Bowtie. Most of then have never owned a Mopar and have jack to stand on.

So funny though. When some dude yappin about his 69 Camaro, I just let out a real big yaaaaaaaawn. My buddies just start cracking up.

The one I did last spring. 427 sb 4-spd but going to a 6-spd soon. Pretty fun car.

i agree with what you said to, Ive had my share and i know guys who never had a Mopar that rattles off at the mouth, there is still a couple guys who got beat by my 69 RR that do remember how it ran, and it right from factory with nothing done to it.. No leg to stand on is what they have is true.

I was driving my 63 when i bought my first Mopar, It wasn't no scorcher with power but i did get it looking and sounding great. This is what started my affair with Mopar, I paid 350 bucks for this and put some into it, was a great car.. pay no attention to the 17 year old holding his wifes pillow i won for her at the county fair lol.

This is why i go to a local transmission shop, the lead mechanic there grew up 3 houses down from mine. I've known him for 30+ years and feel safe leaving a vehicle there. I've had to take a few cars there over the years, always been a fair price and never had any problems.

not ALL GM's are bad, my daily driver is a 97 Saturn I bought new 16 years ago, and other than one time after hitting a rather large raccoon (which took out my radiator, a/c condenser, and air ram) I've had no major problems with it. I'll probably drive it for another 5-6 years before it finally gives out. But since they discontinued the Saturn line, I'll probably stay away from GM in the future.

memories thank you

- i bought my wife a new one in 88-89?. g-t, 5.0, t-top. it surprised me. the salesman was nervous when we went for a test drive. the t-tops were a complete joke. couldn't stop the wind noise. to much torque and the the body would twist. i remember jumping on the freeway and letting it rip. the front end started floating around 130-135mph. this is funny, we took it to florida and were headed for the keys going around miami and she is driving. i was reading something and she starts going a little faster and faster. i look in the mirror on the visor and see she is playing with a cop in a 5.0. i ask her what she was doing and she said racing the other mustang. i tell her she better let it win and she says its ok when you do it. now i am just about peeing my pants and tell her its a cop. brakes come on and the cop comes up beside us. we look over and its a female cop who gives her the thumbs up sign. i flipped. if it was me driving i would of been locked up. sue laughed about that for the whole trip. i got some dandy tickets with it and then she wrote it off.
-thanks for the memory. reading your post brought that up. she passed 11 yrs ago, hep-c.:headbang:

What a story. Well told. I was right there with ya. God Bless you man and may she RIP.

I have a friend of mine who was a chevy mechanic for the past 10+ years. He swears by them but every time I go over to his house he has a 3 year old car that needs every suspension bushing, a wheel bearing, and has an electrical issue. I can't bring myself to even think about buying a chevy because of it. Now years ago I would have told a different story, they used to make some good stuff.

Every mopar I have ever owned has given me good service. Not completely without fault but generally required little work and I usually rode em hard and put em away wet.

I got a kick out of this story too:
My uncle owns an auto parts store in a little town with 1 car dealer (a GM dealer). Back in 03 he bought a brand new Ram Hemi and has been driving it since with NO issues. Dealer owner comes up to him one day "why don't you come over and buy a new chevy, I'll give you a good deal" his response "why would I want a chevy, my dodge just don't break"...proceeded to tell him to go blow smoke.

I'm an unbiased car guy. Own and built cars and trucks from 4 manufactories.

I thought this thread was about shady mechanics that abuse your property?
