If your not looking for max power but just want a do freshen up and some better heads... whats a good kit ? maybe .005 over to clean up the bore... Eddy heads ok for the money? Just a street car build nothing to serious 440 cubic inches is good enough ...

If it were me, I would run a good set of stock cast heads for a Non Max-Effort application.
A good cam, higher comp pistons, balanced rotating assy, dual plane intake, 750cfm carb, HP exhaust manifolds, should get you the road pealing power your looking for. A good set of gears like 3.91:1 or 3.23:1 will help and a decent torque converter.

005 over isn't worth the time to clean up the bore. Bore it 030. Piston's are easier to get. Edelbrock head's with a 484 cam, dual plane intake, flat top piston's. Forged if possible. Small convertor. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the car when done. We do them all the time. After all, it's a 440! Go out and dust some brand x's!

Take it and have the block checked out BEFORE you buy a single part. I can't count the guys I've seen buy a .030 over kit and the block cleans up at .040.....

Any competent machinist would know to check before buying piston's.

I agree, get it apart and make sure it will clean up at something hopefully under .060".

You don't need anything exotic to get good power and reliability out of a 440. Main thing, as with every engine, is to not over cam for the compression you end up with. I'd say 9.5 - 10:1 depending on your gas and a cam that will give you 165 - 175 PSI of cylinder pressure. A good example of how many aftermarket parts to NOT use is my build in the 12 sec combo sticky. My only issue is the 10.1:1 CR doesn't cut it on 91 R+M/2
