Rebuilding an 8 3/4 489 sure grip differential

Great news on getting the gears right. For some reason I had terrible luck in making a new gear set run quiet. I did just rebearing my original 3.55's for the white car and my pattern is exactly the same as yours. Strange how that coast side sort of falls off the tooth but the drive looks great. Maybe I'll check those new gears again and see if I can make them like yours.

I probably missed it somewhere Devin, but what brand ring and pinion did you go with?

I've only ever tried to setup used gears once and I'll personally never do it again (whined like crazy). With them being broke in already it makes reading a pattern a nightmare or at least to me. I'll have to look at the pics again to see what your referring to on the coast side because both of my patterns were close to center? I know mine wasn't perfect but re shimming to get the coast throws off the other so it's a compromise.

The rebuild kit and gears were all Richmond.

I went back and looked at the pics, the first couple are showing where it was and how much adjusting was needed and only the last pic is the finished product.
