Hi guys, need once again some hrlp on replacing my coil, got a 383 w/electronic ignition (reluctor distributor) and need to know the primary resistance before I can purchase. I was looking at them and it seems they can be either .3-4 , .6 or 1.5 ohms on the primary side, Im loooking at MSD blaster 2, or accel super stock 8140C....

anyone have any info on which primary I should be buying, as I understand, if you get the wrong one, it causes undue heat to the ECU and it shuts down till it cools off

Thanks in advance

Do you know what coil I would use? I could get the specs off the original one maybe

I call BS on that...if you are using stock ballast resistor, just order a stock OEM replacement style from any auto parts store

if you have to wait until your ECU cools off, then you have 2 problems, your ECU is wired wrong and the ECU is bad and needs replacement

No BS, different pri resistance causes ECU to run hot, electronics run hot, shut down. New wiring harness, new ECU, new ballast.

All points to bad coil, measured the pri side last night .2 ohms, secondary is 20k. cheap swap out will solve the mystery I guess

BS on that also....

ECU is always connected to battery voltage and ground....the ECU is just a switch triggered by the dist to fire the coil...nothing more....coil resistance and ballast resistance have nothing to do with the ECU running hot, cold, or otherwise...

I have to go with A383 here, but this could be a Canuckian thing, unless he's from Il.?

My favorite coil was the Accel Super Coil. That was The Thing in the 1980s, and I ordered one right away when I got my current car. Then the damn thing failed after a few months. First time one had ever gave up the ghost on me.
