Road Rage - What route are we traveling?

I rented a 16-foot truck and what an ordeal it was from WI to FL! The worst part was traffic and the multitude of drivers with zero patience regardless of driving 5 or 10 MPH above the limit.
Ahhh the great lakes to FL route, long stretches of having to 10&2 the wheel and cover brake! Worst is when 65 thru IN is under construction, and slow Atlanta drivers that like the left lane (there's 5 or 6, wtf). My unscientific research on that route notices that most drivers in a rush have plates from IL,MI,OH and GA. Not as hurried for WI,MN,Ontario,KY,TN drivers. Yah, I know, I just grouped everyone together by state.

In defense (see my avatar), many Uhaul drivers get their first experience driving a truck, let alone a wind sail/mirror blocker with little top end power/speed limiter on the interstate. So I am polite because of that, but I do draft waiting to pass, which may be interpreted as impatience. And it seems that 2 lanes with heavy traffic certain ahole maneuvers are sometimes necessary as defensive driving against people that you know are going to cut in or NASCAR it. It seems aholes beget more aholes, a viscious circle.

I am sure I must be exaggerating, but being a kid in the '60's, i remember a car passing us by at high speed and then a patrol car zooming by after him/her about 30 seconds later. These days I can truthfully drive all day (8-10 hours) on California freeways and never see a patrol car. I was a CHP officer in Los Angeles in 1984, border patrol agent after that.

4 car lengths is what I was taught.
I was taught 1 car length for every 10 mph - then it got changed to the 2 second rule.

Now I see the error, new drivers on their phones trying to cacluate how many car lengths for 65 mph because they need a caculator to solve it . . .

The ones I hate are the ones that pass ya and then slow down and you have turn off the cruise control. Ya know it seems the older I get the more able I am to guess what screwball move is coming next, lol.

I have no problem with fast drivers. I am one of them. The thing that pisses me off when slow *** people get in the passing lane ride. I ride in the middle and left lane but if someone comes up behind me I move over. That is what all people should do. I drive around 40 miles a day(interstate)one way and I get one or two women riding in the passing lane doing 60 in a 70 on their damn phone/putting make-up on a week. When I drive my Plymouth I ride in the slow lane and cruise on down the road out of the way. Its just common sense. lol

I don't mind fast drivers. It's fast driving weaver's, had one 20 mins ago on the way home.

Interstate 385 in South Carolina. I don't weave much though traffic unless the slow car will not move over.

There's only like, 16 cars in Vermont anyway...lol.

Same all over. Todays romp from Rio Vista to San Jose was like the Indy 500 for lack of a better term. Had the Coronet. Seems safest to drive close to the same speed of other knuckleheads.
Way fast. While not sustained, it is not uncommon for the pack to run low 80's in spurts. That is fast for the volume here.

One of a slew of many reasons why I no longer live in that State. This commute of yours is like a WTF moment for me. From Rio Vista to San Jose!!!! Jheez Dennis,,,You must be on the road for over an hour in either direction. But I do understand for the need to work so one goes to where the jobs are I guess. It always bothered me that more mass transit...Trains or Commuter Rail, that kind of thing has never seemed to come into play there. If I guess one wants to spend that amount of time per day, week, and yes even per year in a vehicle to get to and from work, then who am I to really judge. But no way Man for me would I every put up with that kind of commute. Stay safe and drive def:thumbsup:ensively...:thumbsup::usflag::usflag::usflag: cr8crshr/Tuck

Yep even though 6 is more like it in highway traffic is the rule I learned. So what do these clowns do? They think it is their gateway to weave in and out at excessive speeds...cr8crshr/Tuck:usflag::usflag::usflag:

I was passed by a group of kids in an Audi 5000, back in 1988, on Rt 17N from Savannah to Charleston. They had been darting in and out, passing one or two cars at a time for about 20 minutes before they passed me. After passing me they rode the rear bumper of the car in front of them. I slowed way down because I had a feeling they were going to jump out and try to pass them too. They did, right in front of a semi. They managed to slid back over and missed the truck by inches. They kept on sliding back and forth trying to see up ahead on the straight stretches. When they finally took a chance they got hung out there in front of oncoming cars and could not get back in line in time. They ended up flying off to the left side and into the drink at 60 MPH. It wasn't deep so they got banged up and wet but lived. Everyone else, in both directions somehow didn't ram into each other amid all of the skidding and swerving that went on. Me and two other cars stopped to see if they needed help. The folks going by were all cheering and clapping and flipping them the bird. lol. Stupid teenagers.

Try Europe, I was in Pula Croatia and drove to Trieste Italy. In Trieste mandatory to keep in a gear where if a space opened take it or else they'd eat you alive. Motor bikes in between cars. In Croatia at night the driver coming at you would wait until you were ready pass and at the last second turn on high beams to blind you. What ********.

I'm easily aggravated while driving away from my home. I live 2 hours from the nearest major city and 1 hour from a small city so I'm used to low traffic, plenty of room and few who feel the necessity to drive like like idiots. Once I get within a city I'm pulling my hair out at the way people drive..... nuts!

me too! There is so little traffic out here in the sticks that when I go to town and have to stop behind two cars so somebody can use the crosswalk it seems like it takes forever. Stop lights!?? No way, they make me crazy now...

Yeah, slow asses in the left lanes are a pisser, but what about ******** driving up your asshole in the right lane....especially when lanes to left are open?! The simplest of traffic rules are not adhered to & not enforced by law departments..........
"SLOW TRAFFIC YEILDS TO THE RIGHT.....FAST TRAFFIC OVERTAKES SLOW TRAFFIC TO THE LEFT!!!!!!!" ******** overtaking on the right piss me off far more than a slow silverhead or space case out in the left. I clearly remember cali am rush hour on the 22 one am back in 2001....i'm in the right lane running 80 & this smartass high ponytailed twat is GLUED to my ***....far less than a car length......so i LIGHTLY touch brake pedal just enough to trigger brake light switch, but NO braking.......She damn near lost control she stuffed her foot into the brakes so hard.....& naturally a barrage of sign language & mouthed profane gestures followed. Back in 08 on the 405 i had an Asian fatso chick driving up my *** in the slow lane(that would be the far RIGHT lane)& after a couple miles i couldn't deal anymore, so i hit the brakes for an instant ...she wasn't paying good attention, stuffed her foot into brakes that were pulling to right & sure as **** drove into the noise barrier wall to the right.....she had scrubbed most of her speed before contact with the wall. So i exited the 405, did a loop getting back on 405 opposite direction doubling back past her, exiting, looping, getting back on 405,, by the time i got to where she had been, she was gone, so she was ok, just rattled. Hopefully she drove away from that incident with some new found awareness about drivng up the asses of those in front of her....at least enough to pay better attention while tailgating. As for myself, drove away mentally beating myself up to practice longer patience for moron, dimwit ******** & Thankful there were no other traffic involved in our little set to.

I spent a little time in Costa Rica when my daughter was in the Peace Corps. Wild *** driving, no idea of traffic laws...just lawless on narrow roads and one lane bridges with busses and trucks being the most fearless. A bus passed me on a curve one night and to avoid a certain head on I steered off the road to let the bus in before he would a smacked me anyway...so lucky I was on a stretch of road to veer off. Many areas were cliffs or dense jungle right off the road no shoulders. Friend of my daughter's (a kayak and surf instructor) was killed one night when he drove his ATV smack into a tree. The roads there are like they must of been here...back in the 19 teens or earlier. My daughter told me to rent a 4-wheeler as I would be "driving through rivers" encountering super steep hills. I said what? Yeah drive thru 'em during the dry season only otherwise 10-20 miles to get to a bridge. Weird feeling crossing a river that's 200 yards wide not being sure just how deep it is!

Agreed. This was a ride home from the Mopar Show near Sacramento. 680 is the commute from hell and I wouldn't do it if I was given a house up that way. For free. I work and live in SJ. 5 minute walk to the train for commute. Forgot to add tha an idiot rolled over his TransAm, so we slowed for that. Then there was Law Enforcement with guns drawn running around the hills of Fremont. Last chance was the the fire under the 680/87 interchange. Heavy black smoke. I speculate that homeless weenie roast got out of control. Again. The R/T loves the romp though.

I'm with ya' there,
I lived in the SF Bay Area/Concord, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek for 30+ years,
the traffic sucks, all them outsiders/transplants,
just put a windshield in front of them they become blind & angry
than there's people {Both types} doing makeup & jabbering on the phone,
eating or just talking not paying any real attention...

Especially the daily commuters, always late for something or driving that way,
but all idiots in traffic sucks...

me too! There is so little traffic out here in the sticks that when I go to town and have to stop behind two cars so somebody can use the crosswalk it seems like it takes forever. Stop lights!?? No way, they make me crazy now...

I drove an Ice Truck for Union Ice Delivery, usually a 20' bobtail,
when I was still in School summers & vacations...
Even if you were going with the flow of traffic,
stupid people would blast around you...
Recklessly I may add...
IMO they can't stand not being able to "see past you",
always have to get past you, then force their way in
in-front of you....
FORCED to Slam on the brakes & we had heavy loads shift all the time,
even strapped down, no matter how safe I drove,
always some usually younger/type-A Yuppies or
just impatient jerk trying something stupid, not thinking of the consequences...
I don't miss the inner-shity's freeways, major streets,
stoplights ever 100 yards etc.
Let alone all them "nut cases in traffic at all"...

I dread going back to visit family, in the Valley & Bay Area is worse,
it's so much more peaceful here up in the rural mountains/somewhat sticks....

I don't know how so many people can stand it,
living all on-top of each other, everyday in the same grind, same jerks...
No wonder their always pissed off self indulgent narcissist jerks,
too stressful & always in a rush & living in that Urban/Inner-shity environment...

Crazy ****...

Maybe my memory has faded over the decades but I don't remember the vast number of wannabe Indy drivers on the roads in my younger days. Could be because I drove like a wild man back when so nobody was going fast enough to tailgate me. Or with the cars today they are peppy, handle well, and stop fast. Back when people had to be more cautious as cars wouldn't let ya get away with roller coaster moves. When I take my '63 Plymouth for a cruise or more often for some errands where it's safer to drive it, seems as though others have me in their radar as a car to tailgate or want to pass because...it's an old car. Never mind the HP that could blow their Toyota, Honda, Kia, Fusion, Malibu doors off if I wanted to. Drive 65 in a 55 and still riding my ***! A Saturday morning around 10AM and they're in a big effing hurry...

Snipers. No matter which Mopar I drive, you see them in your rearview mirror. They make 18 lane changes to catch up and pass no matter what. Loke they go nuts. Sunday when running the 680 insanity, I just ran nuts with the rest and radar on. The ONLY car that passed was a new white Viper. He went over a solid line into the Express lane to do it.
