First off Merry Christmas to everyone,enjoy your time with your family,working on 69 Roadrunner ,it has a used 440 steel crank motor it’s a 69 did the first start up tonight,weather bad in Ct tonight,deep freeze any way engine sounds good but dosnt seem to want to take the gas ,it will idle ,it has a used 650 on it ,hood need it moves I swapped in a 4 spd ,what’s my best tuning route timing ck ?Richen up the carb I have a vedio of it running thanks probally won’t work on until MondaySorry couldn’t get it to post

Merry Chrismas! Common consensus on a first startup is 34 degrees advanced @ around 3000RPM.
Don't know how your distributor is set up? Just a note, your starter relay is mounted backwards!

- comp ratio

Well I'd first start off by getting it on number one top dead center on a compression stroke. Then I would check the balancer to make sure its on 0 degree mark. See where your rotor button is pointing. Where ever its pointing on the compression stroke means that plug wire is number 1 wire. Once you get that set. You should be able to start the engine. Advance/Turn the distributor until you get 15 or so degrees of initial timing. If its a new cam and lifters and you need to break it in then you need to bring the RPM's up to 2000 to 2500 rpms for 20 minutes or so. If not a new cam then just get it set at around 15 degrees. Unplug the vacuum advance and cap the carb port. Bring the engine up to about 2500 to 3000 rpms and check the timing. Should be between 32 to 36 degrees advanced. You can lock the distributor down at say 36 degrees.

Thanks ya I’ve done this many times on TDC it’s wired right must have caked it 10 times today no luck thanks
