Rosette Rivet Rip-off Rant

I've had 2 cars within the last year come to my yard with "incorrect" rivets. Although both were GM products its still the same issue. Upon closer inspection there were a few other things that didn't match up. Sent them both on there way..................... BUT an unaware employee wouldn't have known the difference. That could open up a whole new can of crap... NO THANKS

I know it's just two rivets, but is $25-$40 for two of them that bad to insure you have the right stuff?

I mean, every f'ing thing on these cars is 4X the cost of any Ford or Chevy...I only wish I could find a pair of anything on my car that was this cheap.

The only way to legally put tags back on would be to present vehicle and tag to local DMV for inspection and if they determine they both belong together you may get a new id tag if lucky. They will install it for you or possibly keep your vehicle depending what state you live in. In the future would be advisable to check for proper procedure with what ever authority before removing any id tag regardless where located. As stated manufacture ( good luck with that) or law enforcement are the only ones that can legally install the rivets. I am perfectly fine with this keeps the A** holes in this hobby legit and actually stand a chance of getting what you pay for.

FYI, the VIN tag on my 70 Cuda is riveted to the dash pad. So, just replacing the cracked original pad requires removal of the VIN. Who at Chrysler thought that wouldn't cause any problems?

You did some digging for this one.. lol. I haven't seen them sold anywhere but ECS, but they're nothing you can't shape yourself on a mill, or with a file, in 10 minutes from a standard round head avex rivet.

My question has always been "where are they coming from?" They are not rare and people are getting and selling them so there must be a source some place, most likely overseas but who knows. I have seen posts (one of which is on the first page) where people say they can "easily' get them through work but this never comes to anything which makes me think that either they are talking out their back sides or got scared off.

Have you tried typing in "rosette rivet" on ebay? They're everywhere. The ones that come from Russia have to be legit, right?

Well, I just forked over $57 including shipping for 2 NOS rivets and the Chrysler logo transfer.

EBay is selling old ankle tracking collars. If you put a matching one on the opposite ankle then people will think you are trendy.

Just re-use your original rivits.
How you might ask? Take a punch and drive the core out the center piece of the rivit. Down into the dash . Then. With a pair of needle nose vise grips on the underside of the dash squeeze the flared part of the rivet enough to remove the Vin tag and rivits out of its original holes. This might take going around the rivit several times to round and reduce the diameter of the flared part of the rivits to get it through the factory holes without enlarging them. Then use some generic steel poprivits and rob the center pin out of them and put them in your original Rosette oem rivits and pop them back into its original place after the vin tag or dash has been restored. $$ saved!
