Route 66 trip

We were scheduled for a boat tour of the lake at 9:30am.
Once we parked the car, we checked in with the attendants and bought some sweatshirts and ponchos for the unexpected ailments.
We then had a one mile hike down the side of the mountain to get to the boat.

Believe you and me, mama wasn’t smiling like this when she had to walk the mile back up LOL.

The precipitation was cold with light rain by the time we got to the bottom of the hill at the end of the trail.
But we finally made it to Crater Lake, the place mama and I had dreamed of seeing since the late 90’s.

Crater Lake, for those who don’t know, has some of the clearest water on the planet we’re told, with visibility at depths of over 100’ deep.
The lake itself is amongst the deepest too, if I recall correctly, at just under 2000’ deep.

Look at how blue this water is.
It looks like someone poured blue water coloring in it.
Absolutely beautiful…

Here’s a short video, again capturing how beautiful that water is.
I’m absolutely floored…

While on the boat, another storm rolled in.
Our 2-hour boat tour got cut in half and all visitors got brought back to shore.

We grabbed some souvenirs, ate lunch on the way out and headed back to our RV headquarters.
One last trail hike before we retired for the evening, before we had to be up at 1:45am yesterday morning to make the trek to board the first plane in Medford.

I figured it’d be fitting to conclude with this picture of the shower curtain at the RV site yesterday morning before we left…
Happy Camper:lol:

Thanks for coming along with us folks.
It really has been the trip of a lifetime.

Wow that's great stuff man. I really like that blue water. Thanks for sharing.

Crater Lake in Southern Oregon is known for its striking blue color because of a combination of factors, including:

  • Water purity
The lake's water comes from snow and rain, and has no other sources, so it's free of sediment and minerals. It also has no inlets or tributaries, which helps keep pollutants out.

  • Water volume
The lake contains 4.6 trillion gallons of water, which provides enough molecules to absorb all colors of the light spectrum except blue.

  • Sunlight
When sunlight enters the lake, water molecules absorb red, orange, yellow, and green wavelengths, but scatter blue wavelengths. The blue light penetrates deeper into the lake and is eventually scattered back to the surface, making the water appear blue.

  • Lake depth
Crater Lake is over 100 feet deep, which allows light to penetrate deeper than in other lakes.

Other factors that can affect the color of the water include:

  • Particle and algae density
Low concentrations of nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus mean less algae growth, which can make the water appear bluer.

  • Observation angle
The angle of the sun, cloud cover, and wind can all change the hue of the water from day to day.

@PlymCrazy What a cool trip! That’s awesome you all had such a great time together. What a nice thread too. You’ve done an excellent job documenting your travels and keeping us all updated… it’s like I was there

Crater Lake hasn’t changed much since we were there in 1980 with our crank up camper trailer. Carried on to Los Angles worked our way back through Denver and came home.
Lots of people in the campgrounds before they became RV parks had to see what it was and look inside.
Good 5 week trip.

…it’s like I was there…

Come back and visit this thread as often as you wish.
Maybe it’ll make you feel like you’re still there, on the journey.
If you do that, be sure to wave out of the RV when you pass by my place, seeing we’re both in NY.
Heck, that can be the Pinnacle of the trip, don’t ya think?
It never has to end lol.

For me though….

Just checked and surprisingly this was not in my playlist. Always loved this song. Just added
Cool....glad I found you a gap filler...
Been a BTO fan since they first
aired. I think this song came out in 1975.
The year my wife and I were married.
