There's a reason for that. The TacPs and Combat Controllers were getting targeted because they were identified by the enemy. They figured out they were directing air traffic to targets so wearing the same uniform as the Army unit they were attached to kept them from standing out. Ever heard the saying jack of all trades master of none. That's why we have a USAF, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
It used to be our corpsman wore Marine Corps BDUs while they were assigned to the USMC combat units, but when they rotated back to USN units they wore their Navy uniforms. So why does the USAF require everyone to wear Army/Marine uniforms because of a few guys in the forward units need them?

So we should keep an entire branch of service going for inflight refueling? Seriously? You think squids can't figure out the complexities of a KC-10?
And our planes get around fine without tanker gas. Ever hear of a nuclear aircraft carrier?
