Satellite has a new heart

Mutt71,
I go back and forth. I had a 69 charger with a 440 20 years ago. Now I have this 68 with the original motor and transmission. I drive it a lot, like the the fact it is a little lighter in the front end. At this point in my life I don't really care for having tons of power, but I just want a little more torque. I built up the transmission with an extra clutch and larger sun gear (actually I rebuilt it twice with less that spectacular results and finally took it to a pro) which was helpful but also with the idea that in the future I may put a 4 inch crank in that 318 block along with a set of swirl port or after market heads. However, it seems most guys think the power, money and "streetability" considerations lean towards a BB or R/B. I'm starting to think the same thing. Therefore, I probably wont do anything until I'm able to ride in a stroked small block as cdn66satellite has done.

For me personally and this car being a street car mostly, i wanted that instant torque. I found with the small block you would have to be in that ideal power range which is higher up in the rpm and then have to wind it out. I love the fact i can smash the pedal down at any speed and it can shred the tires. Motor is still light with the aluminum goodies, still "reasonable" on fuel, and still has all the drivability if not better than my old stock 318.

As some one on here always says - build it like you want it - drive it like you stole it - and to heck what everyone else thinks.... I kind of feel the say way. Want to feel the power and have the torque. Don't necessarily need 800 hp to get a charge out of it. Congratulations on your build. Looking forward to continue to follow it.
