saved one from the crusher non-mopar

1971 442

This one was free for whoever wanted to drag it out of the basement garage and haul it away, so I did! The tow bill was $100.00!

And who says you cannot find bargains anymore. Nice score on that 442.

That T/A looks in phenomenal shape, I have 1 also and have owned no less than 12 2nd gen T/As, I know these cars up down sideways you name it, it looks to have the WS6 option, did you find out if it has the W72 option look to see if the heads are the 6x -4?
That would make it worth restoring even more.

I don't think it's a w72 because it has the 256 gear. I would think the W72 would have something like a 323 gear but it does have the 6x heads. Plus it has the original one muffer over the rear axle that splits into two pipes. If I remember corrrectly the W72 had the two muffer set up. You may know that answer? I still can't believe it has the original exhaust system. I'm pretty sure it's a ws6 because it has the tire size P225 on the label on the door.

If you were anywhere near me, I'd take it off your hands. A 77-78 T/A is on my bucket list. Can't think of another non-Mopar I'd love to get my hands into nearly as much. Great find, the universe thanks you for saving it!

So if you sell it, you'll have flipped someone the bird! AHAHAHA... sorry.

You are quite correct, w72s had a Y pipe in to 2 mufflers and 3.23 gears with the Auto trans. Even tho you have the 6x heads your engine is the L-78 185 horse version.
But at least you have the WS6 option and the wheels are still on the car.
Good score and good luck.

Those "trannies" are a hot car right now. Truly a great car. Pontiac gave the middle finger to GM and the EPA/Insurance industry and continued to "push-out" the 400. The Chivy idiots were scared of it so they personally attacked it and called them the "screamin chickens" because of the hood decals. In 1978 those Trans Ams would run over Chevy Vettes! Out handle them too. Yup, they are selling for good money at Auction.
nice save...

Here is a great Trans Am

Joe Pisano's 78 Trans Am FC, I know its not a saved car but, it is way too cool not to share... Joe Pisano Founder of JP1 Race Hemi's, Venolia Rods & Pistons, Childs & Alberts Rods, Pistons, Rings & Bearings... He did so much for so many racers, he gave me & many other racers, so many parts for free, that with out his help, wouldn't have been able to compete or race, he needs to be remembered... I threw in a 88 Cutlass FC for s--ts & giggles too
