I've neglected this car for to many years.
I bought this car in 1992.
It started out as a 318 auto car.
Threw the years I've had a few different B and RB engines at it.
The best before et before I started for the 10's on pump gas was a 12.50.

I picked up a 512 ci. engine and trans in Jan-Feb of this year with the Charger in mind.
Here's a few pics of the old combo.
440 auto.

Well I removed the old engine and trans.
Took the headers to be re-coating,side note here they charged me $200 to remove the old coating and $300 to coat them.
Engine and trans I was told had under 100 miles.
The trans was supposed to be rebuilt with kollen steels alto bands kevlar bands and bolt in spag and to my suprise it was.
My tranny sponsor tore it down and gave it a clean bill of health and the only thing we did was installed a Cheata manual valve body.
It has a 3000 stall convertor.

Took it to the track a few weeks ago and it ran a 12.3 second pass at 111 mph falling off at the b1/8 th mile.
Next 2 pass's it ran in the 13's.
Put in on the trailer and took it home.
Why run a broken car.

Remove allot of weight is the easiest way, it's all about the power to weight ratios... Move the battery to the Pass, side rear Trunk, The Transmission ??, Add Sub-frame connectors, probably More Gear in the range of 3.73:1-4.30:1 & Torque Converter 3800-4200rpm, then some Traction aid, slicks/drag radials & the suspension will need some help to, Carburetor ?? maybe More Carburetor & Fuel pump, Bypass Fuel regulator w/return to tank/cell, maybe Larger Fuel lines & pick-up, #6AN or 3/8" min., #8AN or 1/2" is better, the stock 5/16" lines won't work verry well, it will cause starvation issues etc... The 512ci is a great start thou... Then like everyone else does, Learn how to tune for the conditions & what the track car/engine needs...

A little more about the car.
It has 3.91 gears going threw a trac lock rear end.
A-body SS springs with the B-body perch's.
Sub frame connectors.
Pinion snubber.
I felt I needed more cubic inch's because of the weight.
I'm going to get the car into the 10's off the juice and all engine on pump gas.

Here's a pic of my 67 Dart that I got into the 10's with a 440 and on pump gas.

This is at a Pinks race.

Well I decided to put a 3/8th's fuel line in.
It has a Holley 110 gph fuel pump in it so I put a 75 gph electric pump in to push the fuel up to the pump.

Next I took the mickey Thompson Sportman Pro's off.
2012-08-17_09-27-50_150.jpg

Put on a set of Hoosier Quick Time Pro's on.
15x28x11.5

Put a tach in that worked and water gauge at that time.
The old water gauge had a short in it.

Went back to the track.
First pass was a 12.80
Surging off the line.
Scratched are heads.
Rechecked fuel level, found that the front bowl was to low.
Took out the home made jet extentions.
Went back out and made another pass and ran a 12.04 Trying for a good light went .001 red.

ResizedImage_1346958310189.jpg

Cooled the car down air was better, wanted a 11 sec pass.
Took it out again and Launching soft out of the hole and 3 ft out flooring it and here's my 11 sec slip.

Need to work on how the car launch's.
The car in the left lane was a 72 duster with a 440.
He was kinda looking down his nose at my car.
It was a good feeling beating him.

Progress, good luck...

If you do put an electric pump on the car, make sure to put an adjustable fuel regulator on it, preferably a By-Pass style with a return line back to the tank, keeps the fuel cooler & adequate supply at the carburetor flowing "at all times", have the fuel regulator & a fuel pressure gauge, before the carburetor, close to the carburetor so you get an accurate fuel pressure reading, set at 6.5-7psi max, set your Float bowl levels so they are "overflowing", add a piece of rubber hose with a hole cut in it in the center for your bowl vent tubes so it won't overflow, add more Accel. Pump Discharge Nozzles/"squirter" size go up 3-5 sizes, see if that helps some, maybe even add 50cc accel. pumps & mildest pump cams also, especially if it likes the larger squirters, also add some jet extensions, on the rear bowl jets, so it doesn't starve for fuel, under hard acceleration, add a K&N air filter & Xtreme top for superior flow.... I would also highly suggest buying the books "How to tune a Holley Carburetor, for Performance" & "How to tune/build a Big Block Mopar Wedge"

Decided to change to a single plane intake.
Took off the Performer RPM.
Put on a M-1 single plane intake.
I bought this engine in a car that I had purchased just to get this engine.
When they put the RPM on they left a 1/2 of a paper gasket on one runner.
I'm hoping this was where my stumble was coming from.

Budnicks,
This is my street car.
I was fighting the stumble and worked my way from what I thought was fuel starvation.
To a lean condition.

I always preach tearing down a new engine.
I new the shop that assembled the engine. So I didn't tear it down.
Stupid mistake on my part.
The gasket not being cleaned off correctly threw me for a loop until I took off the manifold.
I will be putting the jet extensions back on before going to the track.

Here's a few pics of my race car.

Nice rides Womanator, I guess I'm just preachen' to the chior...LOL.......

LOL,Budniks.
I was just trying not to post on other peoples posts too much.
but I thought people would like to see what I had to do to get my 4000 lb Charger into the 10's.

This weekend I was helping out Greg with his A fuel dragster at the Lucas regional event here at Woodburn Oregon.
Yesterday he went 5.49.
Today he didn't make the first qualifying run because of a fuel leak.
The officials shut him down at the starting line.
The second pass he widowed the block by loosing a rod bolt.and sending it out the side.

Last race of the year,he's going home .

Ouch that block venting had to hurt..... Bad *** Altered, I do love them altereds.... I ran one for years from 81-97, "Wild Thing", Looked like the green Nanook of the North or the Blazen Hazen Panic, but Hugger Orange w/white stripes & blue pin-striping, instead of green, I pretty much copied Nanook, except for the sides were solid Orange color, it was 125" inch wheel base Don Torte F/C Chassis, instead of 96"-106" they used back in the day, I had anything from a 301ci Inj. & later Blown Inj. SBC to 377ci Blown Inj. SBC to a Blown Inj. 426ci Max Wedge {& 493ci} to an Injected 427ci Aluminum BBC to a 496ci Milidon Blown Injected BBC to a Blown Inj. 526ci Milidon Mastodon old fuel type Hemi, all running methonal, all with a Powerglide/trans brake or a Lenco 3spd with the Wedge & Milidon later on... I loved tha car, it was fun as hell & so easy to work on.... I'm sorry no digital photos & I'm no photographer either, I was always driving, never was a camera guy, maybe my old partners may have some... Digital cameras weren't really used back then, I don't think anyway...LOL... I just learned how to use one about a year or so ago...LOL....
