*******UPDATE************
after a nice long talk today between my engine builder and myself, we both worked out a amicable settlement that we both are comfortable with.
Things got out of hand where we both said things that we didn't mean and after talking we remained friends and I am looking forward to having everything back to normal.
We were friends for 5 years and He brought up things that i may bhave overlooked and i brought up things to him to keep a relationship alive.
ITS not good to ruin a relationship over something stupid. my apologies go out to him. anything can be fixed.

Chris,

That's probably the best solution!!!

All the Lawyers do is take your money.

Did you agree to dissagree and move on or are you still going to have him do work for you..... Maybe give him a little General Business Schooling?

This is a weird subject. I have noticed that the talented engine builders, chassis builders, or body shops are horrible businessmen. On the other hand the guys who are good business men are usually not that talented at the arts. I am glad you worked things out. Its usually best that way no money is lost in court.

as far as i see it, he is trying to make it right.
after our last conversation, i feel comfortable enough to give him my hemi for a new combination.
the 581 hemi has ran flawlessly this year. its his piece so he will be getting it in november after the last race.
going to step it up, as long as we get a accurate time frame for the work to be finished.

We have a long history together and in the end,I know he will do the right thing.
We could have parted ways but we both didn't want that.
I was caught up in the heat of the moment.
After discussing what went wrong,i believe he was honest in his assessment.
I want the hemi to go 9.30's and 9.50's in the heat.

Haven' read the entire thread...
Two things would have to happen for me in this case. None of the options above would work for me so I didn't vote.

1)I would make him fix the motor that wasn't properly built. If this didn't happen then sue him
2)Loose the number and find another, more reputable, engine builder.

my two cents

Well he's making good and we've decided that our friendship and relationship was worth keeping.
He has given me new parts for my B1 motor and my 588 hemi.
To be fair to him, we will do it over time in order not to financially hurt him.
We both agree we are in it for the long haul.We have too many years together just vto throw away.

I had a similar deal with my last shop, though their work was outright lies and cutting corners, not mistakes. I wasn't looking forward to suing them, all the time and effort, etc. I went to my credit cards to see what they could do and got every penny back that I was owed. It helps if you have documentation, emails, pics, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that credit card companies actually look out for their clients.

Then you hopefully find a new shop that is honest and reputable.

Good luck, man.

Since the problem occured, our relationship has not been better.
Open communication with each other.
I realized everyone makes mistakes.
At the time when the 588 had problems, I thought this motor was done to perfection. All the best parts money could buy. It was my pride and joy. So when I broke a valve, it was just heartwrenching.
I think emotions got the better of me.
But now understanding him better, from now on, I know how to deal with him.
He's been very fair with the money owed. I always believe that things always work out for the best.

I take it that engine was never put on an engine dyno before you recieved it?

I say try to get him to fix it at his expense then when it is finished take it somewhere else and have them check it out to be safe.

2x on that
I would understand that you'd just want to get your stuff and run, but then you'd be stuck with the bill.
I would tell him that unless it is done right this time, you'll see to it that he never gets another motor job again.

Something don't add up. It made 937hp and went 9.20 something. And it had all the valves hitting the pistons???One hard enough to break and lodge in the piston?? NOT likely....Sounds like maybe timing chain/belt broke and sent the valves spinning or cam broke causing the same result. It positively would not make that power with the valves hitting they would bend if hitting any and cause loss of compression plus a horrible miss/backfire throughout the rpm range. I think this engine builder has been condimed to quick. Race motors break even ith the finest parts and being put together precisely. I had a rod break in the beam last Spring on a fresh motor, nothing else was wrong just decided to break. Thats metal-it fails.

Well, your entitled to your opinion for whatever that might be worth:icon_lol:.How you can come to that conclusion without any visual inspection of these pistons is amazing!!:icon_cyclops_ani::binkybaby::icon_scratch::thatswck::icon_study:

If you read some of the posts on the first page Jackass, it says all valves where hitting and #8 broke and lodged in the piston. Sounds like "In my opinion" he is trying to help you guys and all you want to do is throw him under the bus. Maybe there is a local NAPA or Jasper Engine store near you and they can do your work.

It's Mr. Jackass to you poopa j:bootyshake:I was there,I laid eyes on the carnage,I saw the car go 9.20's many times.YOU,didn't see ****,but yet your opinion is yours. Is that the Shlitz talkin:icon_pidu::eek:ccasion14:???Now it's time for the tap on the shoulder so Slim JR can voice HIS opinion on what happened to an engine he did not see either:spam dragon::happy1::icon_scratch::laughing3::icon_oak::violent4::spam in acid::sFun_doh2:

The guy must be a hell of an engine builder if it went that quick with no valve clearance.

Time to get up from ther chair to grab a schlitz and let slim jump into the drivers seat and play armchair quarterback.
Every exhaust valve was hitting. ARC was trying to get every ounce of HP out of the motor.
It does add up poopaj.

Get out your glasses and magnifying glass:idea1:
