So Close to Hitting the Track!

Well it was anti-climatic. One easy 14 second pass and then the car proceeded to break. Very bad noises coming from starter. Hope the damage is limited to the starter.

You got to go at least, and shaking it down..Thanks for the report and best to ya!

Need 3/8 more starter engagement. Only have 0.110". Wonder it ever started.
Several cars I’ve built required a trans to block spacer to get enough tooth engagement into the ring gear. 3/16” material usually does the trick. My current car has a spacer. Who knows why they stack up this way? Numerous converter Companies. Factory starter and trans.

Well its fixed. Turns over just fine. Engagement is around 0.350". Was hoping for a tad more, but I will take it. Clearance between the starter gear and flywheel teeth is around 0.150". Target is 0.125".

The repair was not for the faint hearted. The casting was awful - terrible contamination while welding. Took 0.325" off the face and had to redo the snout also.
