Most of the custom vans were fugly as hell,
way over the top IMO, especially interiors, shag everywhere,
some of the campervans where somewhat useful
I like some of the subtle customs of that era
& the vintage A-100 & Ecoline vans & especially PU's,
because of Wild Bill, Little Red Wagon mostly...
some custom vans were OK, it was the 70's craze,
especially chopped vans are "fugly as hell",
they're just way out of proportion, no matter the make IMO
it was somewhat drug influenced too, reeks of the era, literally...
I do remember the adds well...

I grew up watching van Nuys Blvd. something about the vans in it "stuck" ,always loved them . all we got were Bedford/ ford transit bread /Telco vans with a four or a six sliding doors ugly as f*ck or unique aussie only vans based on sedans
