I wouldn’t use gimmicks , if your going to solder ...use solder and that’s it. Heat shrink needs to put on the wire before the wires to be soldered are twisted together. Then a bad I heat gun to heat shrink.
For a proper connection 60-40 solder and buy some flux as an amateur it will help immensely! Dip the wires in flux heat and apply solder.
