Whats everyone's take on speedo rebuilding? I sent my 69 RR guages in to be tested and refaced and get the tach updated with modern internals. Everything is working currently but i have been given the option to rebuild the speedo for $250. Is this something that really needs to be done or is it overkill? I am not sure what wears out in a speedo so i was hoping for some advice and if i can do this myself. Thanks!

I had a spare and took it apart to see what it would be like to zero it out, pretty easy to do. and they make new dials with numbers now so technically you could do it yourself for probably under a $100. The only thing you can't do yourself is calibrate it to your speedo gear. But if it was on before the nit should still be good. I say do it yourself. It's easy. I even soda blasted he original paint off cleaned and repainted it. So long as your neat and tidy it's easy.

Is anything wrong with it or are you just wanting to reface the speedo? I don't know about the round ones, but that stick-on stencil for repainting the dial on the rectangular speedo is a PITA to get on straight. I think the round ones just use a sticker for the whole face. Performancecargraphics has application videos if you want to see how it's done for the round speedo.
