Just reinstalled the rebuilt steering column in my 67r/t and the coupler kicked out the shoes when it was set in place. Do I need to get a different coupler or can other adjustments be made?
That's funny and no it wasn't that cold today. Is it cold there?
67 is collapse able.maybe just compressed a bit
No did not bolt it in and test fit the coupler beforehand to be sure there was no spline binding. You didn't bolt it in tight at the dash before sliding the coupler on, did you???
Only way it can happen is while putting the coupling on you did not bring the column forward at the same timeIt's a mystery to me how this could happen.
That's a good point. I'll take a good look at it tomorrow to be sure the column is far enough forward. Thanks for your input.Only way it can happen is while putting the coupling on you did not bring the column forward at the same time
I've often wondered about those plastic pins on the shaft ... are they pins that run right though the shaft or are they just inserts that keep it tight - in which case there can be in/out movement in the shaft with a bit of force.

Safety shear "pins". So the column will stay in place, but collapse when you're jammed against the wheel.... I injected plastic mender into mine.
View attachment 1841489I didn't beat on the column and damage the shear pins. I didn't realize my buddy tightened up the mounting flange at the firewall before the coupler was all the way down.Safety shear "pins".
