Sticky goo coming out of orange box

I had a vintage 80's Chrome box which started leaking bad. They were designed for racing mostly, so street driving heated them up faster I guess.

The Rev-N-Nator I bought has never leaked - the compound they use is far superior.
The Gold box (race) was good up to 10K rpm.
The Chrome box (race/street) was good up to 8K rpm.
The Orange box (street) was good up to 6K rpm.

68gtxman an I shared this joyus experience on the Schuylkill Expressway a few years ago. 25 miles from home. In summer. with no bottled water. Bought a new one at the local auto store, back in business. They always fail at the worst time.

I have an original ECU that all the goo has melted away and it was still working fine when I bought that car 3-4 years ago. If I knew what epoxy to buy to replace the goo with it will serve as a spare!!!!

This resin type goo, anyone know what it is made of and does it contain any isocyanide material?

I never checked to see if mine worked, it worked when the car went dormant in '87. I just replaced the de-gooed one in '15 and off I went. I will have to check the old one it and see if it still works.

You can buy new ones pretty cheap or if you want the USA investment and POM pay more. I wouldn't bother to make a fix for the cost of a new one..

FWIW, These Genuine Mopar ECUs can leach just sitting in a box on a shelf over time. No excessive heat required..........

69 Sport Satellite SW .
Shut off on me abruptly yesterday while driving.
Orange box on the firewall leaking goo.
Could this be the problem?

I wouldn't be concerned. Now, sticky goo coming out of the pink box is really something to worry about.

Yes the potting definitely goes bad, I see that all the time even on NOS ones. Heres a couple of charts that will help picking out which one you want, for Mopar NOS not aftermarket ones.

I think it was bad for a long time; car just never ran right.
