You guys are going to laugh, but my chrome box leaked sitting on the shelf. fixed it with liquid Flex Seal! two years no problems.

I'm not laughing. That's one of the few products advertised on TV that actually works well. I've used it on a foundation wall crack that had some pretty bad seepage and it sealed it. I should check my orage box soon. If I find any deterioration, that's the route I'm going. Thanks for the report on it.

Lol, used the "spray on" seal for this old cracked fogger bucket last year. Took several coats. No leaks yet.......

OMG Replaced it with a new one from Advance, WOW it was like I did a complete tune up.
I think it was bad for a long time; car just never ran right.

I have seen NOS ones with the potting leaking all over. Really depends how they are stored really. Hot in a trunk with the potting down is a bad thing for sure. All it really does is seal out moisture and contaminants.

So when mine leaked it exposed things and went bad from moisture?

Probably, we used the hell out of potting on the aircraft I worked on just to seal out the elements, You know I do have a tester here if you want one checked out, one from a old parts store. You would be amazed at some of the test equipment I have.

The potting material does have a tendency to break down all by itself, over time. It does not necessarily mean the box is bad. You can reapply the potting material with a few different things.
