Stock or not?

Trophies at a show are a bonus if you get one. If the only reason you go is to get one and throw the competition under the bus to succeed in getting it, you obviously have no joy in life. I go just to see what's there and don't get butt hurt and whine if said trophy doesn't go home with me. Makes me wonder if the stang guy had anything to do with the car other than writing the check.

I was at a local judged car show years ago. A guy shows up with his very nice restored '69 428 Mustang Mach I. He is very used winning his class and taking home a trophy. Another guy shows up with an immaculate 1963 Chevrolet SS with 409/4-speed. Beautiful black car with red interior. The Mustang guy goes around the car show scoping out the completion in his class. He must have decided the SS was a little too nice. He complained to the judges that this car had chromed hood hinges, and they were not stock. He protested until the judges moved the Chev out of Stock/Restored class into Custom. Mustang guy went on to win his trophy and went home with a big smile on his face. I prefer unjudged car shows to judged ones. There is a whole different atmosphere, with less tension.
100% agree, I almost hate car shows anymore! Unfortunately most are judged around here but judged by people who know nothing about cars especially classics.

Beautiful car!

DK in the Mopar clubs but in AACA or Pontiac Oakland International the headers and valve covers either one would put the car in modified. The only deviations from stock where a car can still be stock in those venues are pretty much the paint (it can be a modern paint) and safety issues such as tires/brakes/seat belts stuff like that.

I don't care what they call stock, that is a beautiful car! I had a 72 SE the same color. Don't see many in that color. Very classy look to me.
I guess it all depends on the type of car show you are attending.

I always figured that replacement parts, like a radiator, didn't affect a 'stock' designation. It's almost impossible to find factory parts for a 50-year old car these days. The headers are the item that put me on the fence, but again replacement factory exhaust manifolds are not easy to find.

I'm not in any super-competitive shows so it probably doesn't really matter anyways...
I don't see a difference between aftermarket Radiator, Heater Hoses, Brake Master Cylinder or Headers... all non stock to me.
Finding correct parts it's not that hard - but they'll cost you a lot more than that generic aftermarket stuff.

Here in the Detroit area they go two ways, factory stock means just that, the way it left the factory, stock can have two changes, wheels valve covers, chrome, radio etc

Stock = as delivered from the factory.
Any changes - wheels, headers, etc = modifies category.
