Television Shows

Laugh tracks annoyed me too. It felt as if I was being coerced into laughing at stuff that they deemed to be funny, not what I thought was funny.
You mean like the original canned laughter from shows like "My three sons" .....the laughter track on that was the same guy laughing his *** off like he had a tin can strapped to his face.

My wife and I used to really enjoy watching "Quantum Leap" back in the 90's. The story was always eerily similar to real life or historical events, which meant you always hoped the outcome would be different....lol

Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell headed the cast really well.

There’s a pretty good one running currently called “ landman “
Billy Bob Thornton is in it ….i think it’s on prime though. Maybe Netflix

Over the Christmas holiday, we caught a marathon of the 2018 Magnum PI.

I had seen an episode a year or so ago and thought it was just OK.
That particular episode had Ken Jeong, and I'm not a big Ken Jeong fan, so that didn't help.

Anyhoo- we saw 4 episodes starting with S1E3 and they were pretty good.
They sure found someone "man pretty" to play Magnum.
Higgins is female. (gasp) but it works.
What we noticed is that the writing is incredibly true to the original series.
Complete with plenty of firearms discharges in city limits, leaving the scene of a crime/killing, breaking and entering, tampering with evidence, PD allowing a PI inside an interrogation room, etc.
It's almost like they were lost episodes except for the cast and time frame.

I hummed the theme from TOS for a few days afterwards. (the new one is similar)

I give it an A-

If you liked the original and can get past the changes into the action and storylines, I recommend it.

I've been watching Rogue Heroes on AmazonPrime. I finished the 5 episodes of season 1. Then I found the original series of The Rat Patrol on Pluto TV.

I would say two shows that helped shape/support my values in life growing up that I enjoyed in order were, "The Rifleman" and "Bonanza", they always had a message.
Entertaining and well written recently would be "Monk"
Just stupid funny would be "In Living Color", "Married with Children", "Modern Family" and "Curb your Enthusiasm" with lastly "Big Bang" which took a while to catch on if I remember correctly.

Netflix is showing a couple of series called "Ancient Apocalypse" with Graham Hancock.

Really interesting and eye-opening story of how humans evolved around the world.

Pretty good so far (BB Thornton was intended for the part from the get-go according to Taylor Sheridan).
I watch it simply to watch him deliver BBT-type lines. :)

I'd be on-board for another go at Justified also - IF Timothy Oliphants' daughter isn't part of it this time.
That one they just did with her was an affront to the original series. Just not good....

Laugh tracks are crappy, BUT even in more modern shows they are effective. Here is a show mentioned in this thread without the track.

I watched this series, my son and wife liked it. I found it decent, though sometimes obnoxious. But that can describe a lot of series.

Will Trent again. What bullshit. Who watches. Linda does. No authenticity at all.

The test of a great TV show is this - Is it still great now after 20 years?

Wife and I binge watch older shows from time, new movies, but without making this political, I've got to start downloading series or get a tevo service to avoid most of the commercials on free tv these days, sickens me to my stomach
