Well, I figured I'd start a thread on my project finally. I picked this car up mid-Oct. It started life as a Charger 500 with a 318 auto. I got it as a 400 4 speed with a bench style shifter. It also had an R/T style louver hood which I traded to a guy for the correct SuperBee style insert.
Overall, the body is in great shape. It now sports a Plum Crazy paint job. It had the incorrect 73 style seat covers which I have since replaced for the correct 71 covers. I also have put the vinyl roof back on.
Things that will be done, or are in the process of being done are as follows.
Correct 15" Rally Wheels with trim rings & hats wrapped in new BFG rubber.
Bumpers will be color matched as well as R/T style Tail lights installed. Color match sport mirrors & correct SuperBee stripe package. I have a Go Wing & a front spoiler for the car. I also have a rear window louver too. I am putting a hood pin kit in to go with the correct SuperBee insert. I also have the chrome wheel opening moldings as well.
Now, for the engine & drivetrain, I had plans to stroke a 71 383 block I had to 496, but when we got in to it, we discovered a 0.060 over would not clean it up. Thought about sleeving, but since it isn't #'s matching I figured I'd take the 400 in the car out to 500 +. I have a shop in the city doing the work. It will have aluminum heads, a performer RPM, Comp cam, Holley carb, Hooker Headers flowing into 3" magnaflows & out to the machine gun tips. The engine will be backed by a TKO 600 5 speed. I am putting the correct trans tunnel in to mount a console with a pistol grip shifter. The power runs into an 8 3/4" sporting 3:91 gears.
As for suspension, since I had a problem with the K-Member (huge rip in the metal), as well the steering was not great, I opted for a Magnum Force front end. I am also going to install frame connectors & a driveshaft loop. Out back it will have super stock springs with the longer front hanger to get positioning correct.
I had a 71 SuperBee back in the early 90's. It was red, but originally it was Plum Crazy Purple. It was a 383 with an air grabber, buckets & a buddy seat with a column shift. I regret these are the only 2 photos I have of the car. One doing a burnout, & one at the track. Oh how I miss that car. When this one come on the market in purple, it was Love at first sight. Now I can have what I had once again.
Here is the car how it came to me.
I have a new valance with exhaust cutouts to go with the tips.
Interior with incorrect covers on the seats.
On the ferry for the ride home. Drove it back.
Bumpers stripped off car & off to paint.
71 383 block that never was meant to be.
A shot of the 400 that is in the car. Out it will come to grow 100 + cubes.
It now has the correct interior.
The vinyl looks great too. Last photo before it goes on.
The start of the vinyl.
Finished result.
The hood with the bulge & the insert finished.
I am getting super excited for summer. Can hardly wait.
