The Long Road to my 74 Satellite Rebuild

Thanks! The car is not yellow yet, still oxidized red. My uncle is going to be doing most of the body work, he should be starting tomorrow, ill help and learn what i can from him.

I saw this car in Mopar Muscle a while back, this is the paint scheme I am thinking about but yellow, minus all of the 71 parts that the guy put on and the regular stripe for my year.

I am really happy with the 318, its got enough power but still descent gas millage and should be even better after i get my 2.73 gears swapped for 3.23's. The 408 was a ton of fun too but it was definitely a race engine. I prefer the 318 on the street.

Went to junk yard today, and pulled a steering column housing to replace/remove my column shifter with a console set up.

Need to media blast and repaint but I'm excited if found the part.

Well done! Keep us posted on your work, cant wait to see some progress goin on. Mine is still in the barn right now. We just had a big snow storm.

I have 73 SSB that was yellow from new I bought it on the phone in 1974 and said I do not like yellow.
I have painted it three times yellow
now I need new rear quarters to restore for the last time
and paint it yellow again
if you know of any buddy with rear quarters or a parts car will be down that way in a couple of weeks

Yellow is good

Yes they only make rear section and front but not center

I have a donor car, with rear quarters, i can take pictures tomorrow. Your looking for both rears?

Yes I am looking for both sides
the last time I had the body done the job was not to my liking and then my daughter bent rear corner and it spent the last 18 years in storage
time to fix one last time

So I've been a way at work for the last week and a half or so, but my uncle has started the body work while I'm away and he just sent me pictures of the rear bumper modified and rough fit.

Also got the power bulge hood on.

I'm really excited to see it in person, I think the bumper looks awesome sucked tight to the body.

agreed on the bumper. when I had my '73, I didn't car for the way the bumpers stuck out and the hughe guards.

I just got better pictures from him, he cut the corner of the bumper between the taillight and the curve of the end of bumper. He also cut the bumper brackets to suck it in flush on the truck as well. No more need for those filler pads.

I think that looks much better tucked in that way! Very nice...

Another update on the modifications. My uncle has finished the rough work on closing up the cutouts in the quarters for rear the bumper and i really wanted to get rid of those ugly marker lights. Went to the local junk yard looking for something else. Our local yard is severely lacking in old metal, a bit afraid to admit it to you guys, but the ones i found are off of a 78 Nova... but im much happier with these than the original ones, going to paint the bezels body color.

Next step is to start on chopping the front bumper, and playing with the idea of having the exhaust exit through the rear valance like on the cuda's, but not sure if it will be possible because the valance looks smaller and steeper angled.

Well about anything is an improvement on the stock ones ... sorry late model guys. If you are looking for any sheetmetal, esp smalls like that, in the future you should give a shout/PM to moparmarks. He's a great guy and specializes in Mopar metal.
