Went to a car show in what used to be a major coal mining area in PA in the 70s. Guy sitting next to me at lunch was a few years older, had worked in the mines back in the day. He bought a 1970 Plum Crazy Dodge Swinger 340 new, still had the car. Told me his first job, he had 48 inches of tunnel height to work in. It was a big day, when he got enough seniority to work standing up. Compared to him, I think I had it easy driving a truck. Wife's great grandfather was a miner in Scranton, descendants got as far away from the mines as they could.
