This was SO much like me.
Back in the single days, I had several platonic female friends. I picked up a few things from them that sort of shaped how I acted. Some complained that guys can't take a hint and how they often have guys misinterpret their intentions. They hesitated to have simple small talk with some because many guys think that small talk automatically meant that the woman was interested.
Sometimes it does, many times it does not.
Because of that, a woman really had to lay it on thick for me to see that she was interested. I'm sure that I missed out on several prospects due to playing it safe and "respectful".
