Ticking lifter

One thing I have done over the years was cut the top inch or so off a few beat up valve covers.
Like others posted putting pressure on the guilty rocker/lifter will change the sound.

Sometimes a big burst of rpm will fix a ticking lifter. The increased oil pressure dislodges the debris under the seat.
I tried something like that once. I was beating my Charger when I shifted into second gear going over a slight rise. I think I over revved it a little when it broke loose. The backend came around and I did a 360 coming to a stop with the motor dead. When I started it, it had a tick, a very bad tick. I went down to the Chrysler dealership and bought one lifter and replaced it. I got another 20,000 hard miles out of that motor.

I once had a 2000 Ram truck for sale. It was a nice truck, but I was not driving it regularly. I had it in the laneway with a For Sale sign in the window, and a young couple stopped to have a look at it. I got the keys for it, and started it up for them. It fired to life with a loud "Clack, Clack, Clack". They practically ran to their car to get away! The truck had never done that before. I put a can of Wynn's Top End Lube in it, and took it for a 5 mile drive. Problem solved; it never did that again.

It just didn't want to leave.

The new lifters just are not as good as the old ones we use to get. I have other people saying the same thing. I have dome head piston's and have to watch the length of my spark plugs. Ask me how I know. Could hear a tick sound. found the piston was striking the ground strap. Not good. Good luck and hope you get it figured out.
