Ticking lifter

One thing I have done over the years was cut the top inch or so off a few beat up valve covers.
Like others posted putting pressure on the guilty rocker/lifter will change the sound.

Sometimes a big burst of rpm will fix a ticking lifter. The increased oil pressure dislodges the debris under the seat.
I tried something like that once. I was beating my Charger when I shifted into second gear going over a slight rise. I think I over revved it a little when it broke loose. The backend came around and I did a 360 coming to a stop with the motor dead. When I started it, it had a tick, a very bad tick. I went down to the Chrysler dealership and bought one lifter and replaced it. I got another 20,000 hard miles out of that motor.
