Tire pressure sensor- UGH. Test or replace?

It seems like the easy answer for a lot of guys is to just put a piece of electrical tape over the sensor light. Same logic what about the check engine light, oil pressure, water temp, electrical etc...?? That would be dumb, right.
TPM's were made mandatory because of a very large tire recall several years back.
One of the primary factors of the tire failures were extremely low tire pressures.
Most people never check their tires until they go flat or someone tells them to look.

Thanks.

I may try swapping my spare wheel's sensor onto the stem in my front wheel.

The trick will be to get a torque wrench onto that tiny attaching bolt to set it at 26 inch pounds (IIRC the spec).

Still not happy about whoever wrote the program to disable the entire system if one sensor fails.

I think I fixed it.

Looks like mine have a press/friction fit stainless tube that presses into the valve stem from the bottom, and has a notch to catch a spring on the sensor (note "press" on the spring).

I found the sensor along with the tube laying in the tire I took off.

I broke the outside bead on the new tire, used a C clamp to press the SS tube in, and clipped the sensor back on.

It started working in less than a minute and the warning light went out about a minute later.

It has made the 23 mile drive to work this morning, and we shall see if my C clamp press will hold the tube in more permanently.

Text on sensor says "replace every dismount".
That sounds expensive.

Looks to have a standard 2025/2032 watch battery inside and looks like it could be replaced if you really wanted to.

The hardest part was holding the bead down out of the way to work.

I learned something new!
