Tom Petty on life support after cardiac arrest - will not be down for breakfast . . .

I liked some of Tom's songs, but I just can't listen to 3 hours of him.Trust me, I'm not judging the guy's life, but what I'm saying is that when a guy in the music industry dies before his/her time, is it a big surprise that a drug overdose was to blame? I'm a big Who fan, but look at what Keith Moon did to himself at such a young age & at a much older age, John Entwistle foolishly ended his life prematurely. What should be asked is why are drugs so prevalent in that industry, and why is a person, at an age when they should be older & much wiser, hooked on them?

Don't take it so personal.
It's not so much 3 hours of his music but his entire story. It was released in October 2007 well before his death. In fact I would get a little pissed watching it because they would start playing a song then cut it short. It's really a very interesting story.

I will throw my 2 cents in the ring. Seeems that people who excell in something to a large degree ,have the genious status. I have noticed that they seem to be tormented in their own minds and have a tendency to self destruct. ....................MO

Could be some truth to that. I'm no genius, that's for sure, but I'm still alive and kicking.

Me either. When the brainiacs on Jeopardy know lines from a 300 year old book, but don't know that Volkswagen made the Karman Ghia, I feel good.

"I'm no genius, that's for sure"

Don't underestimate yourself!
One can be a genius in one's bailiwick, and dumber than a box of rocks in another.

With 1,000 felony counts, I assume that you would be posting from prison. Glad that didn't happen.

Scary stuff. And you’re 100% right. I didn’t realize what it was until I got it all home... she hoarded tons of meds in case she some how lost her permanent disability.

Only looked so I could figure how to best dispose. Thought about returning it to a hospital for their disoosal... and then I realized what it was... flushed it down the toilet fast as I could. Probably close to $200,000 street value.

Bang on Cornpatch, bang on.
As the old saying goes, there is a very fine line between a genius and a madman.
In response to Dennis H, genius isn't what you know, it's how you know.
A genius simply sees things that have always been there that nobody else has seen before or had the ability to grasp and develop it.

Well, thank God for the smart people. Petty didn't have the brains to know what would cause his demise. Talented guy though. I love Hendrix, Mama Cass Elliot, etc. But, drug using fools both.

Again, you're confusing smart and genius. Most people confuse genius with "smart" or "educated".
Hell Dennis, I can see that you show signs of genius just from your written word and you don't even know it.
I can also see that you're not too smart. Get my point?
Educated = man-made / taught. (Just about anybody can achieve this.)
Smart = education in combination with natural ability.
Genius = purely natural ability.

Tom Petty was a genius.

The only genius I know, is the one I based the first part of my screen name on.

Well, being too smart will never be my cause of death. I have known several people that wasted their intelligence. Not famous people, but still could have had it made, but instead chose alcohol and/or drugs. Sad...............MO

These people aren't roll models,
they're just artists, that's it...

good at what they do, some get burnt out, literally & just fade away

I certainly respect some of them for their talent, music & even
some of them for philanthropy & helping others with their fortunes
"rarely" unfortunately...
I don't really care for that lifestyle they promote or live thou... {yes I meant to spell it that way}

Could be some truth to that. I'm no genius, that's for sure, but I'm still alive and kicking.

Sad situation, however, celebrity status, will do it every time. Before any of these past got their big break, they to, could go to the market, movies, sporting events, just like the rest of us. Then they become famous, and I'm sure it is a great feeling at first. But sooner or later it gets to the point, you cannot go anywhere without being noticed, limited privacy. Their worlds get smaller, surrounded by Yes people, that would say nothing in fear of being fired.
Being famous has it's consequences.

This explains the geniuses I have worked with in the past. Abilities beyond my comprehension, yet would walk into traffic without looking. WTF. What a price to pay.
