Asking here, though this is for street. I may be changing out my 4-speed for an automatic because of a shoulder injury. Mildly built Gen 11 Hemi. I have a trans picked out from Coan, Kokomo, IN. They suggested a derale trans cooler with fan. So I found the #13720. Is this adequate? Concerned about mounting it in front of the radiator and blocking air flow. Currently using a mechanical clutch fan, 26" aluminum radiator and shroud. This is in a '69 Road Runner, old tubbed race car. Will beat on some, but probably not at the track. Can I get by without the fan, just a cooler?

Don't have to get too carried away. A good ole fashioned B&M will work fine, get a good sized one. As far as blocking the rad .. many people run a full a/c condenser in front on hot days down there

that cooler will work just fine, it has a fan that will help draw the air through to help with cooling. Like RemCharger said, a / c condenser cover the whole rad

Okay, thanks guys. I just didn't want to overload the electrical system with a fan. That #13720 fan draws 190 watts, advice from another member says my stock alt should handle it, use a relay. I hate it when I see all of threads with electrical overload, engine overheating, 200 Amp alternators, gotta get LEDS etc. Would like to Keep It Simple Stupid KISS, if I can. Going to nail Coan down and see what specifically I can get by with or without.
Thank both of you for answering!

I run a 9.5” converter on the street with a basic 14”x10” cooler, no problem keeping it cool (checked with an infrared thermometer)

If you can, run the trans line to the cooler in the radiator to get rid of most of the heat and then
route it to the auxilliary cooler to finish it off. You can put it in front of the radiator but keep it spaced away
about one inch. Make sure you have a good fan and a shroud!

I like to mount the trans cooler in front of the radiator but to the side away from the top radiator hose inlet. The inlet side is generally the hottest point so I like to give it the clearest air path. That way, if the trans cooler disrupts the air flow, it will be in front of the 'cooler' side.

Okay, now I have more information , this is great. Looks like I can definitely loose the fan part.
Thanks guys!

The stacked plate type cooler in post# 8 is more efficient than the tube & fin type.

I built this duct for my racecar. No loss of airflow.

I like your fabrication work. Think that I have a plan in place, but keeping all suggestions in mind.
Thank you!
