When going from Park to Drive, it takes a bit of throttle before the tranny (727) pops into first on my 69 Satellite. All of the other gears seem fine. Is there a way I can fix this or is there any explanation. Thanks.

Does it make a clunk when you give it gas and it goes into gear? Or does it rev up and slowly move forward? With 727 transmissions the converter has a tendency to drain back when sitting and can be sluggish when first put into gear.

Yes it clunks, which worried me that something may be wrong, is this not so then?

Well I personally have had a few different engines and transmissions and differentials in my dodge ram. It has a 360 from a 1978 cordoba, a 727 from a 1974 motorhome and when I had the 8 1/4 diffs they all clunked when I put it in gear. Are you sure its your transmission? I heard from a few people dodges are notorious for a clunk when being put into gear from park.

If I were you I would make sure it wasn't the U joints or the rear end making the clunk when under the initial load. But If it does turn out to be the transmission, I would double check the torque on the main band with the external lock nut. Also would change the fluid. Sometimes the kickdown band can cause this too if it is out of adjustment.

pull the dip stick and smell if the fluid smells burnt.if so you can try changing it and the filter, but my be a torq conv problem.do you let the car warm up before it does this?as far as the clunck,i would check for movement in your u joins and rear end before anything drastick happens.
