Turn the key and nothing happens..... HELP

ok...lets put our bets on the table...:blob1:

I'm betting something to do with the timing...maybe slipped a couple of teeth on the chain...

2nd cause...something awry with the head work, or head/s installation....

No, just no. Its going to be a wire. 1 single wire that was disconnected. Nothing else.

The fuel tank and temperature gauge are both fed from the Voltage regulator - so I would check that the VR works first, fuel tank only usually means a ground wire missing.
As for the speedometer - there is a handy table below to work out the pinion tooth number required to make your speedometer work 'close' to correct. Table borrowed from another site. Measure your tire height and look up the pinion required, according to diff ratio.

http://home.earthlink.net/~mopared/speedo.htm

Okay how do i check to see if my VR works properly?
Also im not sure of my gears but i can just jack up one tire, rotate it twice and count the revolutions right?

Hey, thats 20!

!

Jack up the car in neutral, parking brake off. Chalk mark one tire at the 12 o'clock position, and a chalk mark at an easily visible place on the drive-shaft. Rotate tire ONE revolution, and count the turns - or part turns of the drive shaft. Example - Drive-shaft rotates 3 and a half times = 3:55 ratio. That's a fairly close indication.

VR diagnosis - there are probably more people who know more than me...however, with a digital multi-meter, you should get a fluctuating 0-5 volts out of one 'leg' of the VR behind the dash between the VR and ground.

Okay is changing the speedo gear or changing the vr a big project? How long would you expect it would take me? Is there anything that I need to watch out for?

Once you have determined the speedometer pinion size required, it should only take 15 minutes to change. The voltage regulator should be straight forward to test and easy to replace if necessary. I have found it is easier to remove the driver seat and lie on my back looking into the dash instead of stretching my neck around the steering column leaning through the door opening etc.

So what wire was MIA? The one that none of us thought of?

Oh no, I was saying I hope its just a wire.

Just got the call... ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALIVE.jpg
Some how it was just the distributor was 180* out???? wtf????????????? I probably tried it like 20 different times?????? Well at least its running. Im going to try to pick it up tomorrow. This is waaaaaaaaayyyy better than Christmas!

So would i have to drop the steering column to get at the VR?

Oh I can't wait to see where Troy ended up placing the distributor compared to what you were doing. F**k yeah, we had that dizzy turned around so much WTF?!? Though Troy is the man!!

Great news on the RR :) I'm no expert on the 74 Roadrunners, but I think you can leave the column in place to check the VR.

Wait, how do you know Troy? And a better question is how does kiwi know him? Hes from New Zealand, and he happens to know a mopar expert that lives 45 mins away from me. And Troy is awesome btw.

74Runner, tomorrow make sure you ask Troy to walk you through what he did and discuss what you were doing with the distributor. I'm really curious as to WTF Troy did besides turning the dizzy 180 to get the car started. I'm curious if the timing was just that way off and it wouldn't start.

Was the old ignition system left in the car, or the new one put back in and dialed in?

Get to know me!!!

JK. I bought his Rev-n-nator box and he coached me through troubleshooting my starting issues. I couldn't get the car started and would get gunshot backfires out the tail pipe. I swapped back and forth between his box and the orange box; car would fire right up with the orange box. So I sent Troy an email on that SATURDAY about my issues and he actually called me back that same Saturday evening and walked me through having to bypass the ballast resistor to get more voltage to the ignition. BINGO!! That was the issue. For a "manufacturer" to call a consumer on a Saturday evening to help them with an issue goes above and beyond!!!! Troy is top notch in my book!! As his is Rev-n-nator box!!! Pulls like a freight train in the higher RPMs.

Following Kiwi's lead, I also reached out to Troy for help for you.

Thanks! Yeah I'll definitely see what he did and let you guys know. He said my old ignition system was so shitty he just put my new ignition system in (which must have been torture for him because it was his biggest rival, FBO). Had i known about his Rev n nator then i would have definetly gone with his over fbo. But he was really nice and didnt say anything bad about don and respected my choice of ignition. Yeah yesterday I probably got to his shop at about 8:00 pm, he gave me and my friend a tour of his shop and all the cars in it (i thought i was dreaming) for 2 more hours, and I didnt leave til about 10- 10:30 pm. I'll definetly go to troy again.

WTF?!?!? 8pm!??!?! And Troy stayed open for you and installed his competitor's product for you. What more can be said....TOP NOTCH GUY!!!! Kiwi and I both can't say enough about his Revnnator ECU. If you decide to change down the road, seriously consider Troy's ECU, great product.

Yeah It will definitely go on my next car. Hopefully my fbo doesnt fail me anytime soon. Yep 8 PM, I kinda felt bad but he knows he has a lifelong customer now due to his customer service.

If your going to college nearby, perhaps Troy might let you hang out at the shop and observe so you can start learning some more stuff. It gets expensive to have someone else work on your car. Thankfully my best friend is a muscle car genius and has taught me heaps and knows everything about these cars; guy's brilliant!!!! Glad I've been able to do all my own work on my so far and save on labor charges, except for the headers, what a PIA in that was.

The Rev-n-nator certainly is a top notch product. Yeah, there are other ECU's on the market with electronic internals....but they don't have what the Rev-n-nator has!! Here are few of those things;

1. The Rev-n-nator has it's own software and componentry design, not a copy of someone else's box.
2. It has super fast electronic curve to respond to the mechanical requirements of the engine
3. Genuine "Plug and Play" for ease of installation
4. Built in tachometer for under-hood operation while tuning the engine
5. Built in Rev Limiter to avoid major damage due to missed gear changes
6. Built by a company who has passion for their product
7. Built in USA
8. Guaranteed to at least equal OR increase horsepower & torque outputs of any engine over any other current marketplace ECU or MSD unit (no-one has reported a drop yet)
9. After sales service and backup by a Manufacturer who actually cares about the product and the customer
10. Someone to talk to who knows the product inside out....unlike when you call most suppliers!!

YES I have installed the Rev-n-nator in my GTX, and YES it is awesome.
They are so easy to use. I installed a unit into two different trucks with MoPar ECU's already fitted - plug and play - within 90 seconds on each truck, they were up and running - no dramas, just a small tweak on the timing....that's it.

Next week we are fitting a Rev-n-nator to a 1970 Chrysler 300 Hurst. The owner can hardly wait. :)

Yeah that would be nice. Luckily Ill only have to pay $50, unless he finds something else wrong with it. Yeah cars can definitely get expensive when other people work on them. I was looking at the cars that Troy was working on, he had to have had about 500 thousand dollars worth of Detroit steel in building. Just shows his workmanship and the trust these people have to let him work on their babies.

OK, long story shortened with mathematics;
KiwiGTX = Kiwi + GTX :)

And now with visual aids;

The Kiwi is the official bird of New Zealand - a native and icon;

not to be confused with the kiwifruit (sometimes marketed overseas as a kiwi);

it grows on vast vines;

and is much tastier than it's distant predecessor....the Chinese Gooseberry which grew much like Blackberry vines and was considered a noxious weed;

...don't worry, New Zealand removed the Chinesium from the gooseberry and turned it into something edible and desirable

Now....this is a fruit;

and this is a GTX;

oh, and this is a cat having a wee rest; :icon_eek:
