Uh oh...trunk stamp dont match.

Wife heading out for a ride, after the carpet install and disk brake conversion I finally feel good about letting her take it out alone and enjoying it. Can't wait until I can have enough to do the body and paint. then weather stripping new windshields front and back and she's done. Except for maybe a 6 bbl ;)

Very nice car BJ

What point is the same? An e-bay envelope car or a stolen cars vin may not match the body style or even the year which is why the hidden vin sequence #'s where put on the body to begin with so the police could check for a stolen car. Yes on a 68 it does not match the vin it matches the fender tag but we where not talking about a 68 or any other year it was a 69. On a 68 and others if needed there are other ways to document the cars originality to the vin if the fender tag is missing. For some reason you just keep going back to the part of saying the op's car was assumed to be rebodied which i never said i was just mentioning that possibility existed which was what i was trying to eliminate for the OP. Of course no # or an incorrect number on a rad support won't keep you from getting a title transferred many states do not even have titles for older cars no one needs to check that for a title only some require it for state inspections which maybe you missed the point where i said most NEVER check as was most likely with the car you sent to PA. There is no problem in a cars numbers not being exact form a mis stamp but i hope you disclosed the numbers where not correct on that car to the buyer at sale or we could be having this discussion again about that car sometime. The rules you are stating are not the same in all cases that is simply not a fact IMO BTW quite the coincidence 40 years also congratulations!

.
The point is the same. cops look for stolens, not that every number matches. If they did, don't you agree every pre 69 car without a fender tag would fail the inspection, because you can't prove that dash VIN belongs to that car., as the numbers don't match, and the car is now suspect. Ask any cop to crawl in the trunk and look at 8 digits, and say it isn't numbers matching, and deny a title issue, not likely. . They know that number isn't a factor in getting a title. Just like no radiator support number won't stop you from getting a title, or the wrong number on the engine. a number turning up stolen will. I have had cars and titles from all over the world my self and yes been in plenty of out of state places and all where not as you are saying. Yes many including the authorities overlook all kinds of things it happens and this is the reason there are as many e-bay envelope cars floating around these days.
I'm sure the police in your state is the same as all the others, they look for stolen cars. my 70' challenger went to PA, and all the body numbers were off one digit from the Dash VIN#. he had no problem getting a new title.(2007) I've also restored mopars for forty years, and bought cars from all over the U.S. I've been in countless title offices, from new Jersey to California. The rules were all the same. Good title, good VIN# on the dash, you got a new title. The gentlemans car was well documented, even if he had found the wrong number there, there was no reason to assume that the car was possibly rebodied.

In a nut shell, that was my only point to my original post, like several of the others.

While watching Graveyard cars the other night, looks like they cut off rear fenders to replace on a Superbird, won't be any numbers matching on that high dollar car,it is what it is, 40 plus years old,not all cars were bought and sealed away, especially back then.

The numbers in the trunk are on the trunk gutter. The trunk gutter is a separate piece from the quarter. I'm not a big fan of GYC show, but I would imagine Mark is well smart enough to save the gutter/stamp.
