Valvoline no longer American owned?

The Saudi Arabian Oil Company ('Aramco') has completed the acquisition of the Valvoline Inc. (NYSE: VVV) global products business ('Valvoline Global Operations') for $2.65 billion, through one of its wholly-owned subsidiaries.Mar 1, 2023

I too have heard (From reputable sources) that the high detergent modern oils are not capable of providing the proper protection for flat tappet engines, yet in that Rislone article, I cut this:

"ZDDP is still necessary in crankcase motor oils and due to its polarity it is in solution, not suspension otherwise solubilized, e.g. scotch & water. The polar zinc migrates and grabs on any exposed surface. The detergent package will not prevent the zinc from bonding with the metal surfaces, nor will it remove the zinc once adhered. These detergents and dispersants keep oxidized particles & soot suspended to be captured by the filter. There is a certain ratio of zinc to phosphorus inside the additive package to make sure this happens. In fact, most ZDDP oil additive packages contain detergents as part of the package."

Now Rislone is disputing this yet the argument makes sense. I'm just supposed to take their word for it?

I use it. No failures so far.

I'm glad to see that. I don't like hearing of anyone having problems, oil related or otherwise. I haven't had any problems with my stock or slightly hotter than stock engines but I have wiped out cams in the performance builds. Dwayne Porter was one guy that told me the high detergent oils are the problem whether they claim to have zinc in them or not.

Dwayne went on to explain that the pour in additives may not be compatible with the oil...that they may not mix right, they may cross contaminate, it is a gamble. He did say the best oil was a dedicated formula for classic engines. Maybe Rislone found a way to make the detergent in their oil NOT wipe the zinc off the metal parts but it just seems like marketing to me.

Has 1400 ppm zinc. Amsoil has the same.

In one of Lake Speed Jrs. recent video he mentioned that Valvoline is the only American owned oil company.
I think Lucas Oil is American owned, and has all of its plants in the US. Philips66 and Chevron have merged and have expanded around the world, but are still headquartered in Texas. Exxon/Mobile is also headquartered in Texas, and is the largest oil company in the western world. Valvoline lubricating oil on the other hand is owned by Saudi Aramco.

I see Aramco does own Valvoline or as they say down south...Vavoleen!

Remember Aramco was once co- owned by the Americans and Saudis until the Arabs stole control of the company and threw the Americans out!!!
