Hi guys,
Looking to upgrade the steering box in my Charger.
I know about the Firm feel box, and the Borgensen upgrade (not sure if I spelt that right). I thought i read somewhere about a Jeep or Dakota box that would fit in.
Thoughts and ideas?
Thanks
Jeff

Try the search engine. There has been a lot of discussion about steering boxes. Another choice is 'Steer and Gear'. Good luck.

Firm Feel will be ALOT CHEAPER!

Sure, you can save about $100 with FF but then you still have a heavier 1960s steering box. Borgeson provides a new, as in current, steering box modified to fit your car. Firm Feel is great, don't get me wrong, but the price difference is brand new vs. a rebuilt unit.

I was hesitant to spend the money on the Firm Feel for fear I wouldn't notice much difference between my existing box. I got the stage 2 and it is awesome. It was well worth the money if your current box was like mine- way too easy to steer with slop.

I doubt you can go wrong or will be disappointed with either firm feel or borgeson.

I switched from manual steering to a borgeson box. The box fit like it should, the coupler they make is a damn nice unit and comes with a good drill bit to drill the shaft with. It was a days work for me but I also pulled my column apart, painted it and replaced my turn signal thangamajig while everything was apart.

LOL He said thangamajig

I would like to know how many of you who have done a change out have done it with the motor in and with TTI headers?

I installed my firm feel with my motor out during a motor rebuild.

Getting ready to do a change out this week with a borgeson box.will let you know how it goes. I have tti headers.

This is off subject but installed a borgeson quick ratio gear box on my 62 bel air wagon and had nothing but problems with it. Talked to someone in the tech section their help was very little. I'm about ready to throw it in the scrap pile. Won't buy another one.

I changed out the manual box to a power box on my uncle's 70' RR 383 4 speed with TTI headers. I was doing the change to power and installing the headers and made the mistake of putting the headers in first (no go). Steering box had to go in first!

We had to lift the engine a little just to get the big factory PS box out. once that was out, the Borgeson box will go in with the engine in place. Not so on a Dart, we had to keep the engine raised a little even to get the Borgeson box in place.

I have a Poly 318 with TTi headers, and it's a tight fit in there, but much more room now.

What kind of problems did you have? I've become good friends with Jeff Grantmeyer there, did you ever speak to him? I'll see him next week at SEMA, I'm sure.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the info, I know about FF, I purchased my upper A arms and other front end parts from them. But the thought of shipping a steering box up to me in Canada is crazy. I know that I read some when that a late model Jeep or Dakota box fits but requires a coupler.
I will keep looking.

swapped

just did the swap, not to bad! had to pull the engine up a little on the driver side to get the old box out.The Borgeson bolted right in and looks great and there's a lot more room.put the front sway bar and Bilstein shocks in and it's a different car! love the way it handles now.:headbang:

I have Borgeson box installed in my Charger project. Before i bought that box, i´ve already gotten fast ratio idler / pitman arms.

What do you guys think, will it be too fast / unaccurate. Or do i need stock lenght arms...? I like fast steering but, is it too much.

The fast ratio arms reduce the stock 15.7 ratio down to just under 12.0 to 1. The Borgeson starts at 14 to 1 so it might end up at 10.0 to 10.5 to 1. That might be okay for racing but too quick for street use.
