My children are studying Fredrick Remington paintings and they want to watch some Westerns because of that.

My 17 yr old girls have already seen:

The Cowboys

The Unforgiven

The Searchers

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre

I'm gonna show them Lonesome Dove (been saving that for a long time!) and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (they loved Hud btw).. suggestions please. I want to share some classics they will enjoy and hopefully spark their interest in the genre. Already thinking of Red River, Rooster Cogburn, and True Grit, The Shootist, and the Clint Eastwood Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and Hang Em' High movies.

Thanks in advance guy and girls. I'm looking forward to any and all suggestions.

apologies in advance also for my drunken typing skillz :O

Open Range. I'm finishing up with it right now.

Good one Rusty .. thanks (my fav Costner Movie is Tin Cup so I'll work that in somewhere along the line eventually)

good, bad and ugly, two mules for sister sara

Eggs...ceeeelant Mar!

Gotta go far Sister Sara (close friend of the rat pack and all) and the good, bad, and the ugly!

The son's of Katie Elder....The man who shot Liberty Valance...Rio Bravo....Mclintock....Shenandoah....Winchester '73...North to Alaska....Tombstone...The Outlaw Josey Wales. A guy could go on and on. 17 Year old girls watching Westerns, who would have thunk? Good work Tallhair.

I can name some for any occasion! What do want them to learn? "The Outlaw Josey Whales" crosses alot of subjects. The Civil war, the Union "Red-Legs", who were basically terrorists, sponsored by the Gov't. The carpet baggers, neutrality of the southwest, and the struggles in the Indian territories. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075029/?ref_=sr_3 And for some "feel-good" watching, how about "Dances With Wolves"?

No Blazing Saddles??????????

How the West Was Won. Great cast. They can see some of the 'old timers' in that one. It glosses over a lot of actual history but it does cover a fair amount of time.

Great movie! We could drag this on for days! Oh, how bout "Little Big Man" with Hoffman, "A Man Called Horse", with Richard Harris. "Jeremiah Johnson", with Robert Redford.

Cat ballou, gunsmoke. Or the Trinity movies with Terrence Hill. They were cheezy and low-budget. But a good laugh.

The one where he sings? LOL Thank you, I will just stick with his "William Shatner Version" of Grand Torino!

Along with the others mentioned, Shane is another good one.

Wanna see a FINE modern western? Ed Harris hit the nail on the head with Appaloosa. It's a dang goodun.

Hey...I started with Blazing Saddles. I figured I'd better come back with something G rated.

(Blazing Saddles...un cut version. Let them see what we saw at 17. Language, un-PC stuff, campfire scene and all)

Love the Trinity movies with Terrance Hill. Really funny and lots of scenes where things are not said, but communicated by a look. My favorite of the 3 Trinity character movies is My Name is Nobody. Terrance Hill arranges for Henry Fonda's character to face the infamous Wild Bunch (all 150 of them) on his own.

Also love the funny westerns with James Garner. What a great actor. I like Support Your Local Sheriff.

WAIT - WAIT!!! You've got to have her watch The Magnificent 7. Classic movie. Many big name actors. Killer theme song. I used to have that theme song on my answering machine back in the day, haha...

To go along with 2 Mules for Sister Sarah, how about "The Cheyene Social Club"?? Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart and Shirly Jones. Also, James Garner in "Support Your Local Sheriff"
