The son's of Katie Elder....The man who shot Liberty Valance...Rio Bravo....Mclintock....Shenandoah....Winchester '73...North to Alaska....Tombstone...The Outlaw Josey Wales. A guy could go on and on. 17 Year old girls watching Westerns, who would have thunk? Good work Tallhair.

All fine suggestions Will, thanks. Yep man I really had to twist their arm last year to get them to watch "The cowboys" and I thought a lot about that first selection. Was a winner and it definitely set the stage for them wanting to watch some more now, especially with the Remington Paintings they are studying now. By the way they also decided a while back they will watch all Star Trek and follow-on series' and moves starting with the original 60's series. They really like it and are really impressed with the "space" artwork. They are also huge Dr Who fans, and like anything to do with time travel.

Great movie! We could drag this on for days! Oh, how bout "Little Big Man" with Hoffman, "A Man Called Horse", with Richard Harris. "Jeremiah Johnson", with Robert Redford.

We've watched Jeremiah Johnson (I've watched that one I don't know how many times) others were good suggestions along with "The Outlaw Josey Wales

Cat ballou, gunsmoke. Or the Trinity movies with Terrence Hill. They were cheezy and low-budget. But a good laugh.

Excellent and the Trinity movies are really good ... love the one with Henry Fonda. Also Gunspoke and Cat Ballou

To go along with 2 Mules for Sister Sarah, how about "The Cheyene Social Club"?? Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart and Shirly Jones. Also, James Garner in "Support Your Local Sheriff"

Jeff

Thanks Jeff, also reminded me of "A Big Hand for the Little Lady" and I'm going to work on them with the Rockford Files when we have time

On the lighter side of Clint Eastwood....

How about Paint Your Wagon?

Love Lee Marvin .. nice off the beaten path suggestion

Love the Trinity movies with Terrance Hill. Really funny and lots of scenes where things are not said, but communicated by a look. My favorite of the 3 Trinity character movies is My Name is Nobody. Terrance Hill arranges for Henry Fonda's character to face the infamous Wild Bunch (all 150 of them) on his own.

Also love the funny westerns with James Garner. What a great actor. I like Support Your Local Sheriff.

WAIT - WAIT!!! You've got to have her watch The Magnificent 7. Classic movie. Many big name actors. Killer theme song. I used to have that theme song on my answering machine back in the day, haha...

Yep, I'm pretty sure they've seen Once Upon a Time in the West, but I'll double check. I love the Trinity movies. And X2 on Jams Garner. No one really ever was the same type of actor and yeah fine cast for the Mag 7.

Wanna see a FINE modern western? Ed Harris hit the nail on the head with Appaloosa. It's a dang goodun.
Hey thanks Rusty, I haven't ever seen that one though I've been meaning too. Also thanks Photon and Snakeyes

I got another suggestion.......ANY western either Tom Selleck and OR Sam Elliot are in. Including The Sacketts and any of those Louis Lamore classics Selleck was in by himself........or Quigley Down Under.

I guess I'm a pinko commie because I have always hated blazing saddles. I caint stand anything that actualy satirizes and pokes fun at the American western. I'm too big a fan of the real thing.

Oh yeah and another suggestion. Pale Rider.

I dont think mel was poking fun at the western films, but at things that were going on at that particular time. I have always liked Mel Brooks films.

I've tried to get into them......several times but for whatever reason I just never have.

High Noon and 3:10 to Yuma (the old ones) are a couple of my favorite classic westerns.

Yep, Old and New on Yuma, and I just remembered From noon til 3, not so much for anything but Jill Ireland

here's another good one with Kirk Douglas and Walter Matthau

what in the hell was that all about? Kirk took it pretty good natured though

this was a good one also

Western noir with Momma Ewing

For realism, you can't beat these:
The Long Riders
The Shadow Riders
Ride with the Devil

Tom Horn with Steve McQueen:

McQueen at his best. The movie captures the collision of the wild west's transition to civilized society, complete with fresh lobster, "that would be the biggest bug I've ever eaten", McQueen.

Another line about a scene where Horn/McQueen throws a houlihan to rope a horse others couldn't, onlooker says, "I ain't never seen roping like that. ... He sure don't rope like no Christian".
