Wanting opinions on roller cams Hyd or Solid????

What Lunati Voodoo series are you looking at with a Hyd Roller?


I was looking at a lunati kit with their springs 231/239 kit or a 243/251 both running 1.6 rockers and around .600lift. If they got the spring right wouldn't that be enough and more streetable???

Well, you can achieve that kind of profile with a flat tappet solid lifter camshaft....
With good oil, there is no concern of pre-mature failure, and if you plan on using your mechanical fuel pump, you'll still need the good oil to keep from wearing the push rod down in a 100 miles. The rockers will appreciate the good oil too!
I have the MP 590 camshaft in mine with 1.6:1 rockers ".630 lift".... This is a heck of a lot cheaper!!!
I would have liked to go Solid Roller in mine, but money went to more important parts at the time... To me, this was the next best thing.......
 
I know it can be done with a flat tappet and hi-compression. I just don't want to have to work on it constantly like I have in the past with the solid lifter motors I delt with in the 90's. I swapped over to hydraulic roller cams in 1999 and haven't regretted it yet. Yes they do cost more but I don't have to fool with them as much. I'm not building a strip only car. I want to drive this motor across country and not be broke down or be adjusting a whole bunch. That's why I want fuel injection overdrive cruise control and hydraulic roller cam. I do want it to be powerful though.
 
I have the lunati 239 550 hydraulic roller that I run on the street. I have stealth heads, 1.6 Hughes rockers and 11.0 compression. Power brakes. I have about 8000 miles on it. Only adjusted it once. So far, no problems. I also run it at the track. Probably about 15-20 times last year. My motor is only a 030 over 440, so not stroked. I'm thinking yours will eat up the cam a little. If the question is street ability, I'd say yes.
 
Which roller cam should I use. I'm thinking about building a 512 fuel injected stroker. I want it to be streetable enough. I'll be using 440 source heads with port work. I would like to be in the 650 horse range.

Which heads, Stealth or SuperStealth? For 650 HP, the standard stealth will need to be ported really well, and a solid roller cam will make it easier to hit that 650+ HP mark. I think the milider profile and valve springs used with the hydraulic roller may limit your power to around 575 HP?
If your in Colorado this summer, you could check out my 505 (0.030 over 440, 4.25" stroke.) It has stealth heads with a bit of cleanup (only flow around 290 cfm), a Comp XR286 Hydraulic roller cam, and Edelbrock Pro-Flo XT EFI (I'm currently in the process of finishing the install, so I don't know how it will run with the EFI?) I haven't dynoed the engine, but was shooting for about 550 HP?
 
I've pretty much given up on the smaller cam hyd roller. I've been thinking there would be extensive port work or cnc-ed indy heads thorough while running the 243/251.

Well, for what it's worth... I haven't had to adjust my rockers the last two springs Iv'e checked them before the car season begins.... Everytime I check them,,, they are spot on...

That's good. I just remember having to check mine what seems now to be too often and that motor was race only. I'm interested in how many miles you get to put on it between checking it?
