What’s a phrase that your parents used years ago

My youngest daughter used to suck her thumb. We tried everything to get her to stop.
One day, picking her up from afterschool daycare, she and some of her classmates were playing with a frog they found, and she was holding it when I got there.
With a surprised look on my face, I told her frogs cause warts if you touch them, and if she were to suck her thumb now, she'd gets warts on her tongue.
She never sucked her thumb again after that day.
