What am I looking at here? Ignition failure?

I performed a compression test on my 72 charger 318 auto and after I put everything back together, no spark. Okay, I loosened some wires somewhere, no problem. I spent hours going over everything and found all wires and connections tight. I put in a used coil, and it fired right up. It did so several more times before I shut it down for the night. I was gonna take a ride to town this morning in it and no start. It turns over but no spark again. Pictured is what I found under the distributor cap. We've only had the car a couple of weeks and I'm unfamiliar with this set up. My 74 is different. The rotor seems to use some sort of bushing. And that "burn" mark on it? What's up with that?

Did you try a new rotor? I am not familiar with that distributor after market what brand?

I have a Pertronix in my 440 engine and it has no bush - the rotor locates in those notches in the Pertronix magnet bit. The rotor also needs to go into the notch on the distributor shaft. Looking at your pic yours cannot so you may find the ignition timing is way out if you put it right. Do you know how to find number 1 cylinder?
It also has a scrape mark that looks like your rotor is too high.
You may also need to check you have a little air gap between the magnet bit and the pickup. Adjust by loosening the nut in your picture. I think the gap is around 10 thousands.
Maybe try it without the bush and bend the rotor tab up a bit also.

I appears you have mis-matched parts. That may not be the correct rotor for the that distributor. Just my guess.

The pic posted by BeepBeepRR is what the rotor should look like when installed. It should be around flush with the magnet bit.
Also check for any burrs so it all slides together nice.

Maybe call Pertronix and ask them what they are selling for your car.

I would suggest checking for power with the key in Start and Run position.
That may be the whole issue.

Thanks for all the input guys. We've been busy with putting up hay and bush hogging and I really haven't had time to mess with the car or get on the computer. I did however order the correct cap and rotor for the car and the coil suggested by pertronix. I work 14 days off and 14 days offshore in the Gulf Of Mexico and won't get back to the car for a couple of weeks. Once I get it all back together I'll let y'all know the outcome. Again, thanks for the help.
