What did I blow up in my 727?

Assuming a 28" tall tire....

That's an awesome calculator! Oh yea, that's easily obtainable then. The cam is good to 6K+ and I have the rev limiter set to 6K. I'm sure the motor will sound awesome screaming through the open cutouts. :)

If your engine was only at 3800 rpm when trans engaged in low it would put a hell of stain on parts. Tires would force the issue, pop, boom. bang.

I used to run stock 3 pin planets in my racecar. And this is with the early weaker spline angle. Its hurt 2 of them. The 1st one I caught on inspection. The 2nd one cost me a chance in the final. The car has 750 passes and has run 9.0@159, 3350lbs. It now has an A&A steel front planet. It's still a 3 pin. As far as suspect parts. Most 727 run the factory planet carriers and never have an issue. The only carriers from the factory that aren't aluminum are in OD Diesel applications

That's similar to what the trans builder said. In his race car, he also runs the 3 gear planet, and that's what he put back in mine.

Got the car back on the ground yesterday, did the usual start up protocols for a new trans, then took it for a neighborhood drive. Definitely feels better, more crisp, than the previous trans. Blowing up the trans did have it's bright spots, I was finally able to get ALL the correct Six Pack linkage installed and also swapped out the 383 throttle cable for the Six Pack cable. Definitely some differences now. :)

The transmission was originally a Coan, and that didn't last the summer and it was not my driving. Second Mopar transmission specialist said the Coan parts were questionable and he rebuilt it. No idea, 1st or 2nd guy, who put in the planetary or output shaft. The 2nd guy really touts himself as "Mr 727" and I would hope he knows all the part differences.

But in any event, I'm on my third builder now, and all my Mopar buddies swear by this guy.

Pretty sure I know who your "2nd" trans specialist is, maybe located a bit south of you? I've tried working with him previously too, not again though.

I've heard a lot of good things about Keith Long but to date haven't needed to have any further transmission work done. (Knock on aluminum!)

I've also had two different transmissions done by A&A transmissions (Rick Allison) and have been very happy with his work.
