What did you do to your Mopar today?

Yesterday I swapped my Grant steering wheel back to a standard B body wheel. That was fun and went well.

A little background is needed about the hood swap before I proceed. I swapped my bulge hood for a ramcharger hood and had it paint to match the car. They also painted the grill area, fenders and blended the doors. I had them paint the black on the interior of the passenger door since there were a thousand paint chips and I had them paint the new driver's side door hing since the doors would be off. There is little evidence that anything was done to protect my baby while ECL had her with the exception of tan masking tape  left on some painted surfaces here and there and the one time when I was there to drop off the hood scoops I saw plastic covering the door openings after the doors were removed; apparently that wasn't very durable.

After I finished swapping the steering wheel I spent several hours cleaning the absolute mess that ECL Body Shop in Moore, OK left. I'm still not done and think I have a sinus infection even though I was wearing a dust mask. There was mold on all of the carpet and a pile of dirt in the driver's floor. The seats and glass were covered in dust as well as the rest of the interior. All of the bare metal surfaces have surface rust, as well as some of the coated hardware. For example, the screws inside the console were brand new before they took the car and now I have to replace them because they are oxidized. How do zinc plated screws inside a covered console get oxidized? My insurance and title docs and case for my reading glasses that were in the console had signs of water damage. WTF??? The car looked and smelled as though it had been in a flood. Thankfully I installed mold resistant sound and heat barrier under the carpet that is aluminum backed on both sides and sealed on the edges.

I had to take the brand new polished aluminum American Racing to a professional metal polisher to have the schmutz removed and polished again at $75 per wheel. The polisher said they were all etched on one side. The front wheels were the worst. The chrome lug nuts are etched, too. A lot of the finishes are dulled under the hood (new brake booster-dull, new master cylinder plated cap-etched, new radiator-dull, MP valve covers-dull, freshly powder coated intake-dull) you get the point. And there is still a lot of clean up left under the hood and under the car. The powder coated suspension components are all now dull and flat black.

I still have a lot of cleaning to go but I don't have the patience or stamina to do it all at once. Here are some photos of what I cleaned and some of the damage they did to the car.

I wonder if a lot of what you are seeing , is over spray. It gets in the air from even other vehicles being worked on . And it seems to go everywhere, and sticks to wherever it lands. And it is hard to get off. I had my suspenstion detailed and after getting the car painted, it was ruined. Sloppy workmanship by the painter..................MO

There's a bit of that, too. Over spray can be removed with clay bar or Shaeffer's Citrol #266. The stuff on my undercarriage won't come off. I think they used an acid wash or other harsh chemical to cut the buffing compound they slung everywhere. The white stuff on the carpet ain't over spray; that's mold.

What did you pay for them?
..$900 n' change shipped, from chicago connection(saved a couple hundred over getting them direct from tti, even though they're about 6 hrs away) Chicago Connection was really good to deal with I would recommend them..

So pretty.

I hope your engine is well broken in. Otherwise they won't stay looking that way. Mine are a bit dull but I bought the car with unknown miles on a rebuild and should have driven it longer with the crappy exhaust system that was on it before swapping to headers.

Lesson learned.
Yessir, the old hookers got the break-in duties and have been on for a few hundred miles...I learned that one way back as well! Good thing too, I had no idea my engine would like the timing it does so the initial fire-off was with if I remember around 14-16 degrees...got one side a nice shade of red...the paint burnoff was a cool show though!

Got my red lines. Now to get the fender fixed. Then add my new wheel lip moldings.

Going to polish them up from crap to mirror finish using a lot of elbow grease and some techniques as used by some of the great folks here...cough cough...Blade Cutter. Got a good start but still a long ways to go.

Went to the Smoke on the Water BBQ competition and car show today. In a sea of Chevys and Fords I still placed in the top 50 out of about 150-200 cars! Had a blast. My first trophy. I also won a hat and chammy cloth. When they called my name my son was so excited and yelled, "that's my daddy!" And everyone laughed and clapped! Sure made my day! My buddy's 1966 convertible restomod Belvedere won best Mopar. I'll post pics of some of the cars from the show tomorrow when I get them loaded in a new thread.

Oh of course, it's "his" Hotwheels! And that was "our" trophy! When we first got there he would tell everyone that walked up, "it's a 1967 Coronet R/T and it's 50 years old". He had a blast! My dad wasn't felling well from the Radiation and couldn't come but I called him and according to him it's "our" trophy as well! Not a problem, my mother taught me to share!

Lol Paul, the other day the youngest grandkid got dropped off to spend the night by his friend&mom. He immediately took his buddy to see the interior of the Bee and buddy's mom gave me a hug. Hadn't seen her since baseball in Sept., gotta love a hug from a 40yr old when ur 68!!!

:xscuseless:
Just kidding.

Went to start my 65 Dodge and cranked and cranked. No fuel. Ran car low on gas around 10 days ago and electric pump lost its prime. No problem if I have 6/7 gallons in the tank. Should have mounted it lower but would hang lower than I'd like.

"Hang lower" kinda sounds weird ? Well maybe not in context with my above text, she's very perky in every way! Thanks Fran!
