What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

Had my heart skip a beat at 8:55 this morning, thanks to those drunk driving TV adverts where the cop shows up at your door, thinking my GD's and Daughter had been killed on their way to daycare this morning. Turns out he was basically accusing me of being a drug runner after a big Coke bust in town, looking for private strips and how they were moving the product. Told him if the dumb faks landed here... they'd still be here in 40 " of snow... GTF off my property. #1 Son curls with the Attorney General for Ontario and the OPP commisioner on Friday nights, gonna be a LONG night for both of them.... Slander charges may be next..

Renewed my membership with AARP for 5 years, at their special at $9.00 dollars a year.
Guess it's a little perk at being 71.

Clutching at straws....friggin' dodgy cops poking around your property.
Next you'll be under surveillance.

Take care and be on the lookout for donut-eaters outside your gate in a TV Repair Van with a suspiciously high count of roof antennas.

Theresa and I ventured down to old town main street and did some walking and shopping. They closed most of the street because there were so many people the sidewalk couldn't hold them. It's beautiful to watch people dressed in period clothes singing Carols, police on horseback and horse-drawn carriages. Stores full of everything you don't need and grandma's cookies, voted best cookies in the country.

Been there, done that, didn't buy the t-shirt...... . You can tell cops to get off your property if they don’t have a warrant. You do not have to answer any questions a cop asks you. Police cannot enter private property without permission. Now, they have a dozen excuses ready for needing to be there. Good luck on the slander charges. I've had a love hate relationship with the police over the years.

I bought a cheap telescope a few years back about that size.

It was absolutely useless......couldn't even see through the windows across the road!!!
My telescope, I'll have to look up all the specs, it's 12". Without a filter looking at a full moon it will blind you.

Had an interesting encounter with the local police in Carlisle this past summer when I was attending the Chrysler Nationals with the GTX. Saw a cruiser behind me. Made sure I came to a full stop, and signaled, at the next intersection, last turn before parking lot for the bbq joint where a group of us were meeting for dinner. Cop pulls me over, issues a citation for failing to signal. I told him it had to be an electrical problem. He said he would have written it as an equipment violation, but his supervisor was demanding more moving violation tickets.

Already more information than I expected, then he told me if were to plead not guilty in court, the magistrate would dismiss it, or amend the plea to an equipment citation. It turned out the turn signal bulb had popped out the the tail lamp housing when I loaded my gear at the end of the day. I appeared in court, and the magistrate threw it out. Interesting dynamic - local police force is trying to generate revenue from the old car crowd, figuring they're from out of town, but the judge is smart enough to figure it's foolish to poke at the golden goose.

I remember this happening. Total BS.

Carlisle LIVES by the old car hobby. Take that away and Carlisle will suffer tremendously. It's so foolish to antagonize the people bringing in huge income to the town. OK, if you were doing donuts in the center of town, fine, but for a tail light that is out??? STUPID.

What was really bizarre was that the officer and the judge both said the same thing off the record. Sounds like a change is needed in some parts of the system down there.

Turns out it was a huge Coke bust the day before... 200 cops involved including the tactical unit and the product was being flown in locally and then driven down to the GTA. This, new to town, poor bastard cop that was told to go out and ask around will never be back in my yard unless I need him! That mandate only took 45 minutes on Friday night... #1 Son has a lot of connections after 15 years in municipal management. Also talks to our Ontario Premier almost daily..

Good for you!! In my life, I have only used a gun once to get my point across. Words coming from the right mouth can burn you more than fire.

Had a couple of older neighbors that are long gone thinking I was too young to buy property 'out here' where I still live. One said I was delivery drugs to my back yard via helo and that was how I could afford to be here!! The helo he saw was a maintenance deal that was checking out the high tension lines out in the back. That BS lasted for over 10 years. Other neighbors also felt his BS. It was nuts here for several years but I was bound to outlive the bastards and well, I'm still here!

Had a couple of cops stop by one day after a kid drove his 4wheeler across my property. I followed him down the road in hope to say to him to not do that anymore. Should have just left it alone but well, BS on that. He ran but then stopped at a local shop and things when down hill from there so I came home. Next thing I know, a cop car comes by with Barney Fife and Andy. Andy saved the day after shutting up Fife and me explaining what took place. It was ironic that the 'kid' was in the back seat of the cop car!

It's a hassle to go to court to prove nothing was wrong....been there way too many times! One is having an 'vintage car' sticker or license plate and the cop has no idea about that law. A buddy of mine doesn't do the vintage car stuff anymore just because of the cops not knowing it.

The judge said that as well when he dismissed the case. I said no problem, now that I'm retired it gave me an excuse to get out of the house, and my wife always liked the idea of me doing legal work. I made a good living in the 90s proving my employer did nothing wrong, and other times, negotiating a deal when they did.

I started to study law back in the early 70's until I saw how convoluted it was......working on cars was much easier lol

Lawyers at the top of the food chain have analytical intelligence of a truly unique type, and often lack common sense. I never met a high end attorney who could turn a wrench.

Went to bed at 00:30 and woke up at 08:30, took the dog for a 2+ mile walk, ate a sandwich, went back out for another 1+ mile walk, drove over to Tractor Supply for dog food and hardware items, picked up a few groceries from Kroger, and then filled up the car with gas on the way back home. Just ate a homemade burrito. I might take another 2+ mile walk before it gets dark and then do some stuff in the garage.
