WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ABILITY TO THE "RED X" COMMENT?

Bob,
What don't you start a thread entitled "FACT not FICTION" and write a list of all the common arguments and where people are going wrong. It should be at least 20 pages and will keep you out of trouble for a while. They may even make it a Sticky.

Perhaps start with:
1. Tapered Roller Bearings vs Green Bearings
2. Champion vs NGK Spark Plugs
3. How a thermostat works
4. Bob's Credentials vs The Common Folk
5. Bob's Net Worth vs The Peasants
No win with any of those subjects. Fram vs Wix, Why BFG white letters turn brown and how to clean them. Holley vs Edelbrock. The list goes on and on. We really don't need any more threads that invite arguments and confrontation. I get tired putting out fires.

Yes I was kidding.....(??)....but, perhaps I should take you up on your suggested topics....complete with calculations.....but I might be RED X'd.....or verbally chastised.......which subject would like discussed first? Please advise.....

I'll take green bearings for 200..
Q) please describe why you believe a tapered roller axle bearing is " better" in all aspects than a "green" ball bearing?

What I want to know is.....is your name William Robert Renton?? First things first, ayh?
Billie-Bob

The old "fix" for whining rear ends was sawdust and 90 weight gear oil......
Downunder in Kiwiland we used banana skins. Best results were obtained with Panamanian bananas, and not those cheap-*** Philippino bananas.

Green bananas were more effective with tall ratio drag-racing gears. (seat of the pants experience only)

Only car-dealers down here used sawdust. Usually, the sort of guy with an open-collar shirt, has a hairy chest, wears a gold medallion and white pointy-toed shoes.

 There was a guy at work that was named William Robert and he was about 35 or so when he realized he was a 'Billy Bob' lol. We only knew him as Bill for a lot of years until he told us his middle name was Robert and things went downhill from there!
You made me just realise that the Tanana town drunk and one of the Waltons have the same name.

I’ll say for the record, I have found no use for the ignore feature, the red X feature, or any other feature that limits my ability to read the posts of all you folks. You come up with the funniest stuff, and I wouldn’t miss any of this for the world! :)

What was the ratio of the 'other' rear? Deep gears tend to run hotter.....
Old gears were the original 2.89s but i never drove it with that in there.. it's just one axles that's running hot.. i think it's a out of round drum, it's on the list now..

Ended up putting on the quiet exhaust and it's SOOO much nicer to drive but not too quiet. The rear end is on decel and coast.. I am wondering if too much backlash can cause that cause i have a nice clunk going from reverse to drive.. like a old beat up pickup.. so if i have to adjust backlash no big deal..

I need to re-adjust the carb and there are a ton of exhaust leaks, didn't change collector gaskets and need to weld some joints, threw it on with band clamps since i knew i would be taking it back off to weld anyway..

Oh.. upshift doesn't care bout TV position either which is really annoying.. going into second at 3000 RPM no matter what takes a touch of the fun away :) Ok guys, thanks for listening to me whine

Generally noise on decel/coast means the pinion is too deep......

well pewp... i will check it when i pull it anyway.. tons of little things to fix. i think i'm at 20 miles on the car now, first miles since '78

Your last comment has nothing to do with anything......would 1/8 mile = 5 seconds or 1/2 mile = 20 seconds or .....????...who issued the statement? ......I've got more practical experience than you might imagine.....

See this right here is what I’m talking about.

Do you want the physical limitations of a single row ball bearing vs Timken style tapered roller bearing in terms of radial load , axial load, RPM, temperature, L10 Life at max load or ?? Or just price....specify......it's not a single aspect. You must be green bearings user......

The podium ( conch) is all yours.

I have used, installed, discarded/ replaced green bearings, yes.

Wow, good thing we don't have a lot of 9" Ford fans here.

Please furnish the MANUFACTURER'S NAME AND BEARING NUMBER (located on the inner or outer race or shield and not the supplier that furnished it).....Dr Diffs part number is not the bearing number. Why did you replace the green bearing...(sounds like several times) vs the Timken bearing that MOPAR installed? Cost or a buddies recommendation.....??
