WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ABILITY TO THE "RED X" COMMENT?

I gotta go home and pull the pig outa my car... i hate rear end dope sooo much :( Just hoping i can find something wrong and get it to make less noise...
What kind of noise it is making? Growling, howling or whine?

Howling and whine and in that sweet spot between accel and decel it sounds like it bounces between the 2.. my exhaust is very loud so kinda hard to hear it perfectly. 4.57s in a 742 with cone POSI (had to) Sure-grip.. It was a gift to me from a old mopar racer/speed shop owner.. figured it would be setup properly, still had yellow marking goo on the ring gear.

I have only put 15 miles on it so, hoping i can reset it up and be ok. Now wondering if i should put the quiet exhaust on first and go for a test drive to really hear it.. new mufflers showed up today.

Kinda wanna put in like 3.55s or 3.73s but that will kill a lot of fun factor :) haven't even beat on it yet

This rear end has been a pain.. got new axles, one has .004 runout and gets 40 degrees hotter than the other (going to swap axles side to side to see if it's the brake making heat or the bearing..)
Kicker is i had the rear end all done with the tapered axles and stock pig.. but nooo.. my 16 year old in my brain messed it all up :)

On the upside, the trans i rebuilt twice before using it actually works kinda ok :) only stressed bout that for 2 years.. i worry too much. No kickdown and the TV is set right.. wondering if the 4.57s could be messing with that. That's another months issue though.. wanna get some miles on.. and now i'm babblin

I don't know all that much about automatics but do know that a low gear rear end can really change your kick down. Got to be going pretty slow with gears like that as far as mph goes to make the trans kick down. RPM is probably too high for the governor to make it happen.....

Bob,
What don't you start a thread entitled "FACT not FICTION" and write a list of all the common arguments and where people are going wrong. It should be at least 20 pages and will keep you out of trouble for a while. They may even make it a Sticky.

Perhaps start with:
1. Tapered Roller Bearings vs Green Bearings
2. Champion vs NGK Spark Plugs
3. How a thermostat works
4. Bob's Credentials vs The Common Folk
5. Bob's Net Worth vs The Peasants

What was the ratio of the 'other' rear? Deep gears tend to run hotter.....

If it gains enough traction and has the content, I'll make it a sticky.

I know you were kidding. (at least I hope)

Is it Whining loud enough to drown out Bob??? :luvplace:
The old "fix" for whining rear ends was sawdust and 90 weight gear oil......as far as drowning me out......like the old TV program DRAGNET...... "Just the facts please".....undocumented, vague, suppositions, "seat of the pants speculations", without evidence or calculations is useless.......just my opinion, of course......
