me tooI want that block. In fact I'll take the whole car.

——me too
---welded the new spring pads on today,,mopar springs with sliders sitting on the tires, 5.5 pinion angle, with battery and a few gallons of gas, my fat *** was not in it just bouned it a few times with no shocks and took the measurement,,because of those springs pads r at 2 differant angles, but tacked into place with full weight on the rear tires,,and welded the pad braces on also. what r u guys torgueing your u-bolts at? machine shop is going to lower the rear cal tracs lower shock mount for 3" travel at rest. strange double adj will be going on.new strange axles installed also . jack tool has been a life/back saver!View attachment 901959
total shock lenght is 22 1/2". 17 1/2" at rest..should be plenty for extention. because the car was back halfed had to get creative to run shocks,,,,with springs compressed, sliders r at 3/4 toward the rear,, when removing the rear end, passenger side was pretty easy to remove spring,, driver side had to be forced a little because springs were all the way back toward front of car with some pressure,, will have to flex the guns to reinstall them. a common practice for sliders?——

Good job going! I used to torque mine at 65ft lbs. So your shocks are extended 3" while the car is sitting on the tires right? And how many inches of extension do you have left?

No, No the bolt should slide right in. i set them up based upon where the slider was with the weight of the car on it,,3/4 of slot back toward rear bumper, the arc of the 2 differant springs r not the same , mopar SS units..the driver side with no weight on them, just hanging by front and rear spring bolts, does not go all the way forward to let the sleeve go right in, if i set them up where they will, with weight on them, the slider will be almost fully back in the slot towards rear bumper,7/8'ish,hardly any travel left,,these springs lay out flat'ish quite a bit when loaded with car weight.alot of fore/aft travel when loaded and unloaded. No, No the bolt should slide right in. passenger side is much easier to push/pull the bolt in and out..6 leafs on 1 side, 8 on the other.. they r still just tacked in,plan was to weld them up today,,does this explain it? thanks.
its about half the thickness of the bolt back, nothing too bad,i figured it was due to those springs,,but sometimes u run what u have. forgot to take a pic of it when it was mocked yesterday,,was rushing to get the shock/cal tracs lower mount off to the machine shop for modifying. is there a torque setting for the slider bolt? no instructions came with them from speedway,,i did notice that if tension was put on the bolt, they did not slide as easily. thanks for all the input. tony.----
Ahh yes, the SS springs are making it difficult. You have the 8 leaf spring on the right side. Sliders are pretty straight forward though, Once your car is sitting with Weight on and leafs flat / level, the leafs will be pretty much as stretched out as they ever will be. If it were me I would set the sliders so that the rear leaf bolts are near the back of the slot, like you mentioned, 7/8. That way you have lots of forward travel for separation. With the 5" of shock travel and lots of forward slider slot your diff will separate from the body without any bind.
---all done ready to go in,,sliders welded up, and rearend assembled, will try 1 of those pre siliconed gaskets,,will install next week when the modified leaf spring shock mounts r done..a few years ago this was alot easier, but since i'm pushing 62, that creeper is putting the hurt on me. will be collecting social security 30 seconds after i'm 62.View attachment 902356
I think you have to be 62 1/2 to get ss. I didn't take mine till I was 67. now 70. things I used to do in a day takes me almost a week its a bitch getting old
